Perfect Hideaways: Caida House – A Hidden Seaside Retreat in Croatia

International travel has been very limited for many of us, but this doesn’t mean we can’t dream up an exotic seaside escape. Today’s beautiful limestone house is located in Lopud, a small island off the coast of Dalmatia, southern Croatia – and it’s giving us all the right feels!

If you’re a traveller who revels in being first to uncover hidden gems, it may be that you visited Croatia a decade ago. Today the secret of Croatia is long out – abundant with vibrant history, ancient architecture and exquisite coastline for days the country has, with good reason, become a well-documented and much-loved destination.

There remains in Croatia an authentic rawness which leaves travellers feeling they made a connection with the locals and experienced the real thing. This is certainly true for Lopud – a tiny island, under five square kilometres, which one traverses on foot or by bicycle. And it is here that we have uncovered a rather special home. To get there take the Jandrolina Postira ferry from Gruz Port in Dubrovnik which the owner describes as “very romantic. It allows you to slow your pace and take in the beauty of the surrounding islands”. The romance doesn’t end there – once one has climbed 150 steps into the hillside and looked back at the views from above one feels utterly transported to a fairy-tale.

Caida House

Caida House was created by restoring and expanding a limestone dwelling, parts of which date back to the 1400’s. The main house features a generously proportioned live-in kitchen and lushly comfortable lounge with double doors opening onto sea views. Then there are two bedrooms, each housed in separate structures affording guests complete privacy and linked with paths and plantings in a soft palette of silvers and greens.

The centrepiece however has to be the pool – ruins discovered under rubble and undergrowth were lovingly repurposed as the foundation creating a setting truly princess castle-like in its sense of history and quite magical beauty. Should you prefer to swim in the sea you can maintain the feeling of residing in your own principality. The owner thoughtfully procured the land all the way to the calm, clear waters below to ensure a completely private swimming experience.

It certainly is a magical place – the perfect spot to create new memories and explore the beauty of Croatia.

Caida House forms a part of the portfolio of Perfect Hideaways. The Perfect Hideaways team spends a large part of the year scouting new locations and out-of-the-box havens like this one, which they know their clients will love. Places where lying in a hammock all day is encouraged, where the kids can run barefoot and free from early till sunset, where nights are about stargazing and the days for as doing as little or as much as you like. All in achingly beautiful surrounds.

You can be guaranteed that every single property in their repertoire is extraordinary.  View the portfolio online and be sure to book your next trip through Perfect Hideaways here.
