STIL. Montagu: A Minimalist Hideaway for Slow Living in the Langeberg
Just two hours from Cape Town, the charming town of Montagu is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, historic architecture, vineyards and laid-back country atmosphere. Tucked away beside the Keisie River, just a short walk from the village centre, STIL. is a contemporary hideaway that offers a refreshing approach to slow living.
Available to rent through Perfect Hideaways, this secluded one-bedroom property is designed for two, making it an ideal choice for a romantic weekend, a solo getaway or a few days exploring the Langeberg region.
Whitewashed brickwork, contemporary curves and expansive steel-framed openings give the single-level home its distinctive architectural character, while an upstairs roof terrace overlooks the indigenous garden and surrounding mountains.
Inside, the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area is flooded with natural light. Tall windows and sliding aluminium screens connect the interior with the garden, while rough timber textures complement a restrained palette of white, black, grey and natural stone. The result is a pared-back space where every element feels carefully considered.
The furnishings follow the same minimalist approach, favouring clean lines and practical design over unnecessary decoration. A fireplace provides a cosy focal point for cooler evenings. At the same time, the fully equipped kitchen has everything needed for leisurely breakfasts, home-cooked dinners and longer stays, including a Nespresso machine for morning coffee.
Outside, a wild meadow, silver birch trees and a flowing stream create a peaceful setting, with sculptures by Anton Smit adding an artistic element to the landscape. Guests can stretch out on the lawn, enjoy a drink beneath the trees or head upstairs for yoga on the roof terrace.
A heated plunge pool offers another spot to unwind, while sun loungers, oversized chairs and a portable Weber braai make outdoor entertaining easy.
There’s no television, but with a Bluetooth speaker, excellent WiFi and a selection of board games, STIL. has everything needed for a relaxing stay without unnecessary distractions.
When it’s time to explore, Montagu’s cafés, restaurants, galleries and antique shops are just a ten-minute walk away. The town is also known for its scenic hiking and cycling routes, wine farms and historic attractions. Flying Feet also offers guided walking and cycling tours to help you discover the area.
With its thoughtful architecture, natural surroundings and uncluttered interiors, STIL. is a wonderful place to slow down and enjoy the quieter pleasures of country living.
