True Design: Volage Ex-S Night Wood
Tauting Philippe Starck’s unmistakable design signature, the Volage Ex-S Night Wood is the latest addition to the designer’s bedroom range for Cassina.
Available in three luxurious types of wood, both sides of the elegantly designed headboard are equipped with a cast aluminium bar with a large fabric lampshade and a small dimmable LED spotlight that can be aimed at will. The two floating bedside tables have a marble top and wooden drawer in the same finish as the headboard, equipped with two electrical sockets or USB ports.
Further echoing the aesthetic and saddlery details of the Somewhere EL-S Collection, including the ivory-colour stitching and thick grainy leather that clads the bedframe, the bed has a majestic presence.
“Like all classic pieces, it is meant to be upgraded and to evolve along with our lives,” says designer Philippe Starck of the design. “Because it is not about design or architecture, but about us. By itself, it is a complete entity, a city, a society, a civilisation. Therefore, Volage is absolutely timeless and long-lasting.
Celebrating 30 years of collaboration, the bed forms part of an eclectic installation titled Somewhere Else at the Cassina Store Paris Rive Gauche, which is currently on show.
Cassina is locally available at True Design. Stockists of the finest authentic designs, True Design represents several premium international brands in South Africa. “Our brands are a true reflection of success, each with their own rich history, pioneering the trends of design and product technologies,” notes True Design.
The company has showrooms in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
