The Lorosae Table, by Italian lighting house Nemo, is a portable, rechargeable lamp designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza. Considered, story-driven and made for the way we live, it’s exactly the kind of object we love bringing into South African homes.

A Sense of Place

The design takes its name from Timor Loro Sae, the former Portuguese colony in East Asia whose name translates to “the place where the sun rises.”

Inspired by a journey there, Siza captures the feeling of that first light through hand-finished translucent glass and a soft, diffused glow.

It’s a small object with a big sense of place. That resonance between design, travel and identity feels particularly fitting for a Heritage Month conversation about the stories behind the objects we choose.

Lorosae is designed for the easy movement of spring and summer.
