Earth Colour Innovations: Redesign Your Perfect Kitchen

Earth Colour Innovations has been inspiring homes all over South Africa, with trendsetting designs and distinctive decorative ideas and innovation. They are fast becoming a leader in the industry,  taking it not only by storm, but with passion, quality, and innovation!

How do you help a client who is redesigning a kitchen to visualise the space?

Firstly, we make it clear that as a full turnkey solution provider, Perfect is Possible! Our initial design consultation is a video call and focuses on getting to know our client better and, letting the imagination run wild, through open discussion and a series of focused questions to help us see what you see! We take our time creating the Design Concept and first focus on our clients’ challenges in the current kitchen and share crucial information that will open their minds-eye to what is important to consider when embarking on a kitchen project. Using various mediums and online resources, we ask our clients to explore the various styles and finishes out there (if they don’t already have a mood board or style in mind).

We guide and facilitate a Personal Design Profile, which focuses on the household and how they have been interacting with the space, and then, how they would prefer to interact with their space, in an ideal world. This helps us narrow down a key narrative/style that complements and elevates the personal touches in the entire design concept. A key part of this process is understanding that the budget dictates a lot of what goes into a project and quality of materials used in the final product.

The second consultation, we pay you visit & sees us narrowing down the design concept in preparation for your Design Proposal. Here we look at final measurements for comparison to plans provided for the 3D rendering, various material finishes, worktops, sanitary ware/plumbing, etc. We provide some samples that our clients interact with and creates a living image of the potential look and feel. Excitement usually escalates dramatically at this point! We take our key notes, the personal design profile and finalise a Design Proposal.

This includes a breakdown of the Scope of Work, and itemised list of projected costs, and the Design Concept rendered in HD. This is discussed at length in the final consultation, where we consider potential changes to the design concept and rollout plan, before finalising logistics and the work begins.

Are you flexible to work with many styles for a kitchen?

Traditional, Farm style, Modern minimalist or Something no one has done before – Affiliation to key suppliers and specialists makes this rather easy for us. Added to that, 20+ years of experience, there isn’t much we haven’t seen. This means we often invite a challenging design to test our creative limits, as we haven’t found one yet!

In what order can a client expect the work to be carried out?

We put a lot of time and effort into making perfect possible, but here’s a 10 000ft flyover:

  • Design Consultation: This is the phase where we sit down and talk about what you want to create. Generally a design concept is finalised within a week.
  • Schematics: We’ll come back to you with a game plan, complete with sketches, samples, renders, and all that good stuff so you can get an idea of what we have in mind for your space.
  • Procurement and Delivery: This is when the shopping and shipping happens. We do the running around so you don’t have to!
  • Project Management: We always start with creating a clean and solid foundation for the areas in which elements are to be installed. The stripping of the current kitchen elements, building/construction, plumbing, electrical work, painting/wallpapering /tiling, flooring, , unit installations, and the like happens during this phase. We’ll keep everything on track and keep our clients in loop every step of the way. Each project has its own unique elements and challenges, and the full breakdown of the project scope is provided in the final Design Proposal.

What advice do you give clients when redesigning a kitchen?

Redesigning a kitchen can often be a daunting prospect and though most elements are bound to budget, don’t be afraid to dream! You’ll be surprised to discover what is possible, even under the tightest of budgets. The value added to your home is not limited to the substantial number of Rands added to an asking price; it stretches far beyond, into the new memories and quality of life it will create!
