Stone Connection
A beautiful and durable option, natural stone, such as marble and granite, is the first choice of many homeowners looking to invest in premium finishes – whether inside or out.
The perfect choice for a statement kitchen countertop or bathroom vanity, natural stone can also be used for backsplashes, wall cladding and flooring.
But how to look after your investment? Here, Stone Connection shares how to maintain natural stone surfaces in your home.
- Seal your natural stone countertops
“We would always recommend sealing any natural stone countertops as a result of all-natural material being permeable. Marbles are generally more porous than granites and might need additional care. A properly done sealing will not only keep your surfaces resistant for decades but will ensure a bacteria-free and highly hygienic environment in your home.”
You can have your countertops sealed professionally or do it yourself. If you are going the DIY route, be sure to carefully follow all instructions. Depending on the type of natural stone, the surface should be resealed every three to six months, depending on a water test.
2. Clean your natural stone surfaces regularly using the correct cleaner and technique
“When cleaning your natural stone, be it granite, marble, sandstone or onyx, make sure your detergent is mild and not too harsh. Stay away from detergents with ammonia or any strong acidic chemicals.
“For day-to-day cleaning, we recommend using a stone care cleaner alternatively a mixture of water and dishwashing detergent. Avoid prolonged rubbing in one spot when cleaning.”
Stone Connection is an importer and distributor of over 80 different types of natural and engineered stones of the highest quality.
