ProNature: Women in the Woodworking Industry – Crafting a New Legacy
Women in the Woodworking Industry: Crafting a New Legacy.
The woodworking industry, traditionally dominated by men, is undergoing a transformative shift as women increasingly make their mark. From master craftsmen to innovative entrepreneurs, women are redefining the landscape of woodworking, demonstrating that talent, creativity, and dedication transcend gender. Be inspired by ProNature South Africa.
This month, let’s shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of female woodworkers and business owners, and acknowledge their achievements.
- Fiona, creator of @ohnice_za, a workshop based in Woodstock, Cape Town. Oh Nice was born from the love of woodwork design and the simple idea that discarded timber can be re-imagined into something new, functional and beautiful.
- Debbie, founder and creator of @cholinga_co, ‘where soul and nature meet!’ She creates beautiful handwoven items which incorporate both carpentry and weaving.
- Jen and her team at Orejen Store out of Linden, Johannesburg. Where handcrafted one-of-a-kind furniture and doors out of reclaimed Oregon Pine are made, simply timeless decor and furnishings you must have.
- @fynbossieteam, a Cape Town home furniture and decor company, was started by Bianca and Mariska in 2018. One of the reasons why we are celebrating Fynbossie this month is because they are a 100% local women owned company. From the workshop, marketing, consulting, upholstery and overall management – all done by women! All their items are made by carpenters (not robots or machines – as they like to say) and made from sustainable resources.
- Kim from @stumped.woodentoys! Kim and her team have created a unique range of sustainable wooden toys and DIY kits, designed to develop important skills as your child builds and explores through play.
Here’s to the women who are carving out their place in woodworking, inspiring others, and paving the way for future generations of artisans. Happy August, and here’s to celebrating the incredible impact of women!
At ProNature, the women are truly painting a greener future with their innovative approaches and unwavering dedication. Their efforts not only drive sustainable practices but also inspire a broader movement towards environmental stewardship. Through their passion and expertise, they are transforming our world into a healthier, more vibrant place for generations to come.
