Cattelan Italia Natural Stone Ceramic Finishes | Maldini
Natural stone has long provided designers with an extraordinary palette of colour, movement and pattern. Now Cattelan Italia, available in South Africa through Maldini, is drawing on some of its most distinctive expressions to create three new ceramic finishes that bring that richness into contemporary interiors.
The newest arrivals…
Taj Mahal, Giava and Darwin are three new additions to the Italian brand’s ceramic collection, each inspired by the colours, movement and geological character of natural stone.
The lightest of the three, Taj Mahal draws on Brazilian quartzite, with a warm champagne background threaded with amber, pale crystalline veining and fluid golden streaks. The surface has plenty of movement, but its softer palette keeps it wonderfully versatile. It’s practical too, with good stain resistance and durability, while the ceramic can be moulded around curved furniture bases for a more seamless, sculptural look.
Giava has a more graphic personality. Look closely, and its beige and warm brown surface reveals mineral-like deposits, geometric fragments and diagonal markings that recall the cross-section of crystalline stone.
Then there’s Darwin, the moodier of the trio. Inspired by Brazilian Ebano quartzite, it moves through café-au-lait, deep brown, ochre and burnt sienna, with long parallel veins creating patterns that might remind you of tree rings, canyon walls or layers of weathered rock. Its silky, matte soft-touch finish adds to the effect, making this a distinctive choice for contemporary interiors.
The three finishes aren’t limited to dining tables either. They are available across Cattelan Italia’s ceramic collection, including coffee tables, desks, sideboards and consoles, opening up plenty of possibilities for bringing these stone-inspired surfaces into different areas of the home.
In South Africa, Cattelan Italia is available through Maldini. Established in 2001, Maldini has spent more than two decades bringing contemporary Italian furniture to the local market, with collections selected for their distinctive design, manufacturing quality and attention to detail. Its offering spans furniture for both living and working spaces, bringing together timeless pieces and more contemporary designs that showcase the craftsmanship and design heritage Italian furniture is known for.
