Inside Decorex Joburg 2026: Design Trends, Innovation & Inspiration
For more than three decades, Decorex has been one of South Africa’s most influential design events, bringing together the country’s leading designers, architects, makers, manufacturers and brands under one roof. From product launches and immersive installations to thought-provoking talks and emerging talent, the exhibition continues to showcase the ideas shaping the future of design. Decorex Joburg 2026 promises to continue this legacy.
Ahead of Decorex Joburg 2026, we spoke to Sian Cullingworth, Business Development Director of Decorex Africa, about this year’s standout features, the design trends visitors can expect to see, and why the exhibition remains an essential destination for both industry professionals and homeowners looking for fresh inspiration.
Decorex Joburg 2026 is almost here. What can visitors look forward to, and what makes this year’s show a must-visit for both design professionals and homeowners?
“Decorex Joburg has always been about much more than beautiful spaces. It is where ideas become tangible, where products are launched, partnerships are formed, and conversations shape the future of the industry.
This year, visitors can expect our most comprehensive showcase yet, spanning five levels of the Sandton Convention Centre and bringing together more than 400 carefully curated exhibitors across interiors, kitchens, furniture, décor, architecture, construction, technology, property, design and lifestyle. Whether you’re specifying products for a commercial project, planning a home renovation or simply passionate about great design, the show offers an opportunity to experience the latest thinking and innovations under one roof.
What makes Decorex Joburg unique is its ability to bring together every part of the design ecosystem. You’ll discover internationally recognised brands alongside emerging local designers, attend thought-provoking talks, experience immersive installations, and leave with practical ideas that can be applied immediately, whether you’re designing a hotel, building a home or refreshing a single room.”
Every year brings new installations, experiences and product launches. Which features are you most excited about, and what shouldn’t visitors miss?
“That’s always the hardest question because the feature spaces are only one part of the Decorex experience. Alongside them are more than 400 exhibitors introducing new collections, products and ideas. The beauty of the show is that every level offers something different, and some of the most memorable discoveries are often found on an exhibitor’s stand.
That said, there are a few highlights I’m particularly looking forward to. The Sacred Pause, created by Lifestyle Ceramics in collaboration with Kohler and Cocoon Lifestyle, transforms the bathroom into a place of sanctuary, exploring the relationship between water, architecture, materiality and wellbeing in a beautifully immersive way.
The @home Cooking Studio remains one of the show’s most popular attractions, with a packed programme of live demonstrations from some of South Africa’s leading culinary personalities, celebrating the kitchen as the heart of the home.
For anyone passionate about contemporary design, 100% Design Africa is an essential stop, bringing together established designers, emerging talent, international collaborations and curated exhibitions that celebrate the remarkable depth of design across the continent. Future Talks, presented by Oggie, is another standout, offering a CPD-accredited programme featuring respected architects, designers, creatives and international speakers exploring the ideas shaping our industry.
I’m also looking forward to Moments of Attention by Woolworths, an installation exploring how texture, scent, light and carefully considered objects influence the way we experience our homes. Finally, The Recharge Garage, presented by Lexus in collaboration with Tshepo Sealetsa, reimagines one of the home’s most overlooked spaces, demonstrating how thoughtful design can transform even the most functional environments.
Of course, that’s only scratching the surface. Across five levels, visitors will discover hundreds of exhibitors, immersive installations, product launches and inspiring brands, ensuring that every visit offers something unexpected.”
What are some of the biggest design trends visitors will see throughout this year’s exhibition?
“One of the most interesting shifts we’re seeing is that people are moving beyond chasing trends and instead creating spaces that feel authentic, personal and enduring. Homes are increasingly being designed to support the way we live, rather than simply reflecting what’s fashionable, which aligns beautifully with this year’s theme, The Soft Life.
Across the exhibition, visitors will see natural materials, tactile finishes, layered textures and beautifully crafted products that prioritise longevity and quality. There’s also a renewed appreciation for craftsmanship and locally made design, with many exhibitors celebrating African creativity, materiality and storytelling alongside world-class innovation.
Technology continues to evolve too, but in a far more considered way. Rather than technology for technology’s sake, visitors will discover integrated solutions that enhance everyday living, from intelligent kitchens and energy-efficient appliances to intuitive lighting and home automation.
What’s particularly exciting is that these ideas aren’t confined to a single feature or hall. They’re reflected throughout the exhibition, allowing visitors to see how different designers and brands interpret them in their own unique way.”
Decorex has become an important platform for both established brands and emerging talent. How does the exhibition continue to support South Africa’s creative industries?
“One of Decorex’s greatest strengths is its ability to connect people.
For established brands, the exhibition provides an opportunity to launch products, strengthen relationships and engage directly with both consumers and the professional design community. For emerging designers, it’s an invaluable platform to gain visibility, meet potential clients and collaborators, and showcase their work alongside some of the industry’s most respected names.
Through initiatives such as 100% Design Africa, curated exhibitions, Future Talks and our partnerships across the design sector, we’re creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration and knowledge sharing. Supporting local creativity has always been central to what we do because a thriving design industry benefits everyone, from manufacturers and retailers to architects, designers and consumers.”
Whether you’re an architect, interior designer, retailer or homeowner, what do you hope every visitor takes away from this year’s show?
“The value of Decorex lies in bringing the entire industry together in one place.
Professionals can discover new suppliers, source products, attend CPD-accredited talks, meet manufacturers and strengthen existing business relationships. Retailers can identify emerging trends and products that will influence future buying decisions.
For homeowners, the experience is equally valuable. They have direct access to experts, can compare products side by side, ask questions and gather ideas that would otherwise take months of research.
Ultimately, everyone leaves having learned something new, whether that’s a fresh design perspective, a product solution or a valuable industry connection. My advice is simple: give yourself time to explore. The best discoveries are often the ones you weren’t expecting. Whether you’re visiting with a specific project in mind or simply looking for inspiration, you’ll leave with new ideas, new connections and a renewed appreciation for the remarkable talent shaping African design today.”
With hundreds of exhibitors, inspiring installations and the latest thinking from across the design industry, Decorex Joburg 2026 once again promises to be a valuable source of inspiration for anyone passionate about design.
