Heimtextil 2027: Textile Design & Innovationeven

As the global textile industry navigates changing consumer expectations, economic uncertainty and a growing demand for quality, Heimtextil 2027 is setting the stage for a new era of material innovation, creative expression and future-focused interior design. Heimtextil 2027 textile design highlights the evolving relationship between creativity, functionality and material performance in contemporary interiors.

12–15 January 2027 | Frankfurt am Main, Germany

The world of interiors is undergoing a profound transformation. Today, beautiful design is no longer enough. Textiles must deliver on multiple levels, combining aesthetic appeal with functionality, durability, sustainability and lasting value. Against this evolving backdrop, Heimtextil 2027 returns to Frankfurt from 12 to 15 January, bringing together the global textile and interiors community for four days of discovery, collaboration and creative exchange.

With approximately 2,900 exhibitors, the international trade fair continues to demonstrate its significance as a meeting point for manufacturers, designers, architects, retailers and sourcing professionals. Its latest edition places renewed emphasis on quality, reliability and meaningful industry connections, while introducing fresh concepts that respond to the changing demands of residential, hospitality and commercial interiors.

From the launch of Carpets & Rugs Excellence and the new Comfort & Connect area to the thought-provoking Heimtextil Trends 27/28, the fair promises a comprehensive exploration of the materials, technologies and design philosophies shaping tomorrow’s spaces.

A New Design Language: The Performance of Everyday Living

At the heart of Heimtextil 2027 lies a compelling exploration of how contemporary interiors can better serve the people who inhabit them.

Presented under the theme Home-Maxxing – The Performance of Everyday Living, the Heimtextil Trends 27/28, developed in collaboration with Milan-based design platform Alcova, examine the increasingly complex relationship between performance, comfort and personal wellbeing.

As homes become multifunctional environments accommodating work, rest, entertainment and everyday rituals, design is being challenged to achieve more without adding complexity to daily life.

Three distinct trend directions offer a fresh perspective on this evolving relationship.

Staged Competence celebrates the visual language of performance, transforming technical details, codes, numbers and micrographics into distinctive decorative elements. Rather than concealing innovation, this approach makes functionality part of the aesthetic experience.

Inside, Out embraces transparency in design. Exposed seams, visible construction, practical fastenings and replaceable components reveal how products are made and how they function. The result is an honest, considered design language that encourages longevity, adaptability and a deeper appreciation of craftsmanship.

Hyper Presence offers a counterpoint to an increasingly digital world. Natural fibres, textured surfaces, pronounced folds and the beauty of patina invite a renewed connection with the physical environment. Here, tactility becomes an essential expression of comfort, authenticity and emotional wellbeing.

Together, these directions suggest a future in which material intelligence and sensory experience are equally important.

Adding another layer of creative influence, acclaimed architect and designer Patricia Urquiola will contribute her own works to the Trend Space, extending the material exploration established through her previous Heimtextil presentations. Her involvement, alongside Alcova’s curatorial vision, reinforces the fair’s connection to the international design conversation.

Carpets & Rugs: A Renewed Focus on Craftsmanship and Quality

Carpets have long been fundamental to the character of an interior, introducing warmth, texture, colour and a sense of place. At Heimtextil 2027, this important category takes on renewed prominence through a more clearly defined exhibition structure and the introduction of Carpets & Rugs Excellence.

Designed to connect buyers with manufacturers capable of meeting demanding quality and production requirements, the new premium segment in Hall 11.0 showcases internationally selected suppliers recognised for their workmanship, product quality and manufacturing expertise.

Exhibitors including Bhadohi Carpets, Hafizia Arts & Crafts, Heritage Overseas and Jaipur Rugs will contribute to a presentation that places craftsmanship and production capability firmly in the spotlight.

Elsewhere, the broader Carpets & Rugs offering spans artisanal, decorative and high-volume production. Hall 3.0 will feature hand-knotted statement pieces, premium doormats and flooring solutions, while Hall 3.1 brings together established international names such as Oriental Weavers, Ragolle Rugs, Balta Industries, Merinos, Verbatex and Welspun.

The strategic positioning of carpets alongside decorative and upholstery fabrics creates opportunities for buyers and interior professionals to explore coordinated schemes, compare finishes and develop complete interior concepts.

For the industry, the message is clear: exceptional design must be supported by dependable manufacturing, consistent quality and the flexibility to meet the needs of a global marketplace.

Comfort & Connect: The Art of Living Well

As consumers increasingly seek products that enhance everyday comfort, the bedroom and bathroom continue to evolve into important spaces for personal restoration and wellbeing.

Responding to this shift, Heimtextil introduces Comfort & Connect, a new destination in the foyer of Hall 5.1 dedicated to premium bed and bath textiles, decorative cushions and carefully considered home accessories.

Featuring brands such as Essenza Home, Hermann Biederlack, Ibena Textilwerke and Zoeppritz, the area offers an engaging starting point for specialist retailers, hospitality buyers and interior professionals seeking collections that combine quality with contemporary lifestyle appeal.

Complementing this presentation, Bed, Bath & Living extends across Halls 5.0 and 5.1 and part of Hall 4.2, showcasing established brands, new collections and private-label opportunities.

Sleep innovation also takes centre stage through Smart Bedding in Hall 4.0. Here, an expanding selection of German and European mattress manufacturers will demonstrate the latest developments in sleep products and systems.

The returning Sleep & Meet initiative, organised in cooperation with the German Mattress Industry Association, strengthens this offering by bringing together leading names including Auping Germany, Dormiente, EuroComfort Group, f.a.n. frankenstolz and Schwarzwald Schlafsysteme.

Together, these dedicated areas reflect the growing importance of comfort-led design, where textiles contribute not only to the appearance of a space but also to the quality of everyday living.

Beyond Decoration: Designing Complete Interior Experiences

The boundaries between textiles, architecture and interior decoration are becoming increasingly fluid. Materials are no longer selected in isolation but considered as part of a cohesive spatial experience.

Heimtextil 2027 responds through Interior Design Concepts: Window, Wall & Floor in Hall 3.0, where complementary solutions for interior surfaces are brought together to inspire integrated design thinking.

Through practical presentations, DecoTeam will demonstrate how fabrics, window treatments, sun protection and flooring can be combined to create harmonious environments.

The neighbouring Design Lounge powered by DecoTeam will further translate emerging trends into coordinated palettes of colour, texture and material.

Meanwhile, Decorative & Furniture Fabrics in Halls 3.1 and 4.1 provide an extensive international selection of upholstery textiles, decorative fabrics, outdoor materials, artificial leather and specialist contract solutions.

For designers and specifiers, this integrated approach offers a valuable opportunity to explore how individual material choices contribute to the atmosphere, functionality and identity of an interior.

Functional Futures: Materials with Purpose

In hospitality, healthcare, workplace and retail environments, textiles are expected to do far more than create visual impact.

Performance, durability and suitability for specific applications are essential considerations, particularly as commercial interiors are required to balance aesthetic expectations with demanding operational needs.

Through Interior.Architecture.Hospitality, Heimtextil brings these priorities into focus, connecting architects, interior designers and contract professionals with specialist textile manufacturers and technical expertise.

A notable addition for 2027 is the Functional Futures Lab in Hall 4.1, presented in partnership with Future Fabrics Expo, founded by Nina Marenzi.

This forward-looking showcase will explore innovative materials and design solutions developed for the functional spaces of tomorrow, placing material performance at the centre of the conversation.

An accompanying programme of talks and guided tours will provide practical insights into applications and specifications, helping visitors identify suitable materials and connect directly with potential project partners.

The initiative reflects a wider shift within the industry towards more informed material selection, where innovation is measured by its ability to deliver meaningful, real-world benefits.

The Next Generation of Textile Creativity

While technology and performance are essential drivers of change, creativity remains the defining force behind the textile industry’s evolution.

Hall 4.2 will once again host Heimtextil’s expansive Textile Design offering, bringing together international design studios presenting original patterns, colour concepts and surface developments for home and contract applications.

For buyers and product developers, the opportunity to experience designs first-hand and engage directly with their creators provides an important bridge between creative exploration and commercial product development.

Equally significant is the continued growth of the New Talent Area, curated in cooperation with Jennifer Castoldi of Trendease.

Now entering its second year, the initiative has already confirmed more than 30 emerging designers, offering a platform for fresh perspectives, experimental materials and innovative approaches to sustainability.

Their participation highlights the importance of nurturing new creative voices and ensuring that the future of textile design remains diverse, imaginative and responsive to the changing world.

Global Connections, Lasting Value

Beyond its role as a design showcase, Heimtextil remains a vital international sourcing destination.

Through Global Home, the fair connects buyers with manufacturers, private-label specialists and country pavilions offering an extensive range of bed, bath, kitchen, window and decorative textiles.

Halls 8.0 and 9.1 will focus on volume production and home textile collections, while Halls 12.0 and 12.1 will feature international manufacturers specialising in window and decorative textiles.

Global Home Excellence, located in Halls 9.0 and 11.0, introduces an additional level of quality assurance through a selection of manufacturers evaluated by an independent expert jury.

For sourcing professionals navigating unpredictable supply chains and increasing pressure on margins, the ability to assess products, negotiate requirements and establish relationships directly with manufacturers remains one of the fair’s most valuable advantages.

As Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, emphasises, quality, reliability and strong personal relationships are becoming increasingly important in an unpredictable marketplace.

It is this combination of international reach, tangible product experience and direct industry engagement that continues to underpin Heimtextil’s relevance.

The Future Is Material

Heimtextil 2027 arrives at a defining moment for the global textile and interiors sector.

As the market places greater emphasis on value, longevity and measurable performance, the fair’s evolving format reflects an industry looking beyond short-lived trends towards more meaningful innovation.

From tactile surfaces that reconnect people with their surroundings to intelligent materials designed for demanding environments, the next chapter of textile design is being shaped by a powerful combination of creativity, craftsmanship and technical expertise.

What emerges is a more holistic understanding of the role textiles play in our lives. They define atmosphere, support wellbeing, enhance functionality and bring individuality to the spaces we occupy.

By uniting emerging talent, established brands, specialist manufacturers and international design leaders, Heimtextil 2027 offers more than a glimpse of future collections. It provides a compelling perspective on where the industry is heading and how thoughtful material choices can shape better spaces for tomorrow. Heimtextil 2027 textile design reflects this shift towards more considered, innovative and functional interior solutions.
