Experience The Soft Life at the SA Décor & Design Stand | Decorex Joburg 2026
Trade exhibitions are often defined by movement. Visitors weave between stands, discovering new products, meeting designers, and gathering ideas. At this year’s Decorex Joburg, however, the SA Décor & Design stand at Decorex Joburg 2026 offers something quite different: a space that invites visitors to slow down.
Designed by Toni-Anne van der Meulen of Tones Spaces with Soul, the stand interprets Decorex Africa’s 2026 theme, The Soft Life, through an interior that celebrates comfort, craftsmanship, and considered living. Rather than relying on dramatic gestures, the design demonstrates how thoughtful materials, natural textures, and timeless pieces can create a home that feels restorative as much as it is beautiful.
“The Soft Life is not about excess – it’s about intention,” says van der Meulen. “It celebrates spaces that slow us down, soothe the senses, and remind us that true luxury lies in comfort, authenticity, and beautifully crafted simplicity.”
A palette of soft neutrals, natural timber, and layered textures forms the foundation of the space, where every element has been selected to contribute to a calm, cohesive atmosphere. At its centre is the understated elegance of La Grange furniture, whose handcrafted pieces bring warmth and permanence to the interior, demonstrating that timeless design never needs to compete for attention.
Lighting plays an equally important role in shaping the mood. Modern Vintage’s sculptural fittings and decorative bulbs are displayed not simply as functional objects, but as design pieces in their own right, illustrating how light influences atmosphere, highlights materiality, and transforms the way a space is experienced.
The walls become part of the story through decorative finishes by Silkcoat Southern Africa. Marmarito, inspired by the movement and depth of natural marble, introduces quiet sophistication, while Travertino draws on the organic character of natural stone to add warmth, texture, and tactile richness. Together, the finishes demonstrate how surfaces can become defining architectural features rather than simply a backdrop to a room.
Flowing drapery, organic forms, and carefully layered accessories complete the composition, creating an interior that feels relaxed, inviting, and effortlessly lived in. Flooring by Traviata Flooring and contributions from Mavromac & Gatehouse and Your Branding Partner further reinforce the collaborative nature of the installation, with each element contributing to a unified design vision.
More than a beautifully styled exhibition stand, the SA Décor & Design stand at Decorex Joburg 2026 offers a reminder of design’s ability to shape the way people feel. In the midst of one of Africa’s largest design events, it creates a welcome pause – a place where visitors can experience the quiet confidence of craftsmanship, materiality, and thoughtful design, and perhaps leave inspired to bring a little of that same sense of calm into their own homes.
