Rooted in Nature: A Soulful Summer Home by La Grange Interiors in Ibiza
Perched high on a hill, overlooking Ibiza’s patchwork of farmland and vineyards, this summer home – a recently completed project by La Grange Interiors – radiates quiet confidence, rooted in its surroundings, yet refined in its design.
Interior designer Sumari Krige of La Grange Interiors approached the project with a simple but powerful intention: to create a family retreat that feels at one with the land but not defined by the clichés of island living. “Although it’s on the island, it’s not a beach house,” she explains.
Shaped by the landscape
The house sits on one of the last large plots approved more than a decade ago, and its location – framed by rugged mountains and a wild natural landscape – shaped everything from the architecture to the interiors. Originally designed by Luis Garcia Lobo and later completed in collaboration with Blakstad Architects, the structure embraces traditional Ibizan architecture in a way that’s honest and respectful. Their textural, tactile approach – working with stone, plaster, and aged wood – laid the perfect canvas for a home that’s both soulful and serene.
An ode to nature
Inside, a calming palette of earthy neutrals lets natural textures do the talking. Think oak, ash, stucco, and marble, all elevated, all grounded. Five generous bedrooms, a library, two living spaces (one for summer, one for winter), and an inner courtyard offer room to breathe. Sumari’s favourite spot? A glass-lined passage bathed in light and softened by sheer white curtains – a dreamy link between indoors and out.
Seamless transitions are key here. Oversized glass doors dissolve the line between the home and its surroundings, making nature part of the experience. While breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, and embroidered textures enhance the sense of relaxed luxury and pieces like a round swivel chair in the main bedroom or a striking wall tapestry break the mould while keeping comfort at the core.
