Modern Gesture: Taking African Design To The World’s Stage
The new Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was extra special for the team from Modern Gesture who were fortunate to be part of the set design. They provided some beautiful woven pendant lights for filming the movie. This recognition is a testament to the products’ beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural significance.
Modern Gesture believes that each piece created tells a story embedded into its materials. Founder Candice Lawrence loves exploring with materials and also finding different ways to use them. She feels that each unique piece captures the time and care engaged in the creation of each item. This practice ensures that each piece holds its own unique characteristics.
African design is a unique and diverse representation of the continent’s rich cultural heritage. Its vibrant colours and intricate textures are renowned worldwide and make a significant impact on global trends. Its place in the world is undeniable, and it continues to evolve and inspire.
Being featured in an internationally acclaimed show is a wonderful acknowledgement of African design and we can’t wait to see what Modern Gesture does next.
