Kisawa Sanctuary
Committed to forging a bond between people and place, Kisawa, which means “unbreakable”, is the newest property to welcome guests to Benguerra Island, Mozambique.
Bringing together wilderness and well-being, the 300-hectare luxury sanctuary of forest, beach and dunes prides itself on delivering generous and personalised hospitality, allowing guests to do as they wish, when they wish.
Situated on the most southern tip of the island, Kisawa welcomes guests with a selection of exquisite accommodation options and first-class amenities.
“Kisawa is a happy pairing of innovation and tradition,” notes founder and creative director Nina Flohr. “We believe in inclusive design and have worked with skilled artisans from Benguerra Island as well as patented 3D printing technology. Decisions have been careful to protect the environment and we have ensured a light footprint on the natural landscape where possible. Our vision has been to blend rather than interrupt.”
Guests can choose to stay in one of eight bespoke one-, two or three-bedroom bungalow residences, each with its own private beach, an open-air deck, an infinity pool and an outdoor day area. Carefully spaced along the calm cove of Benguerra Island, each bungalow sleeps two guests. Some stand alone, while others are positioned in groups, so family or friends can enjoy a balance of privacy and togetherness.
While amenities include a selection of culinary venues, including a beach restaurant, wine room and outdoor beach cafe, each highlighting the area’s natural produce. An award-winning spa specialising in integrated healing and natural wellness centre with a yoga studio, as well as a 25-metre central pool, can also be found on site. Guests can also enjoy an array of water sports, including scuba, snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking.
“We have created Kisawa with our hearts to be a sanctuary that brings nature, culture and service together. We have made strategic decisions informed by extensive research in creating a positive impact for the people of Mozambique and its natural surroundings,” says Flohr.
