It’s Time To Plan Your Ultimate Picnic
Summer means outdoor entertainment and the holidays are the perfect reason to venture outdoors for some fun in the sun. Pack up your things and prepare for the ultimate picnic with our top tips!
Setting Choose from one of SA’s lovely picnic venues. We are most certainly spoiled for choice – select an upmarket wine estate, pop down to a beach, nature reserve or even a public park to create the ultimate picnic. Find a shady spot where you can enjoy the day with your loved ones in a picturesque setting that will create the ideal backdrop to making wonderful family memories together! Comfort Pack a comfy picnic blanket, or two, or three, depending on the amount of people who will be joining you. For added comfort, remember to pack a few pillows and a throw or light jersey in case it becomes a bit chilly outdoors. Brunch ideas Depending on the time of day for your planned picnic, choose foods that you can eat with ease. If you’re doing a brunch picnic, opt for breakfast scones, muffins and quiches that make for a wholesome mid-morning snack. Remember, what makes a picnic really great is that you can snack on plenty of different things, so keep things interesting with an array of goodies. Mornings may also call for a flask of coffee – remember to pack in plastic mugs or cups for convenience.
Fresh juice is another essential, as well as a bottle of still or sparkling water – depending on your preference. Sunset Picnics A sunset picnic is also a wonderful idea and you can create the ideal romantic setting for two, or more, by packing in a few of your favourite treats. Think an array of fresh bread, cheese and wine to be shared. Fresh fruits, nuts and biltong are also picnicking favourites as they are easy to eat – no mess, no fuss! Entertainment Bring your own music or a novel to enjoy while you casually soak up the sun! If picnicking with kids, be sure to pack a few toys and a ball to keep them entertained.
