Inside Out Decor: Colourful South African Outdoor Living

South African summer has a way of moving life outside. Morning coffee migrates to the patio, afternoons stretch around the pool, and dinners have a habit of running well into the evening. With outdoor spaces back in regular use, Inside Out Décor is making a case for bringing a little more colour along for the ride.

This season, that means moving beyond the expected neutrals and having some fun. Fresh mint, vibrant lime, orange and sunny yellow sit alongside playful stripes, showing just how much personality a single piece can bring to a patio, veranda or poolside setting.

And you don’t need to redo the entire space to make an impact. Against neutral paving, timber and plenty of greenery, one colourful chair can be enough to change the mood. It’s an easy way to give an existing outdoor area new energy without replacing everything already there.

A pop of pattern and tone

If you’re feeling more adventurous, forget about making everything match. Pair different colours, introduce a stripe or mix patterns with solid shades. Keeping some elements neutral will give brighter pieces room to stand out, while a less coordinated approach can make the space feel relaxed, collected and much more personal.

Inside Out Décor’s Daybed Chair lends itself particularly well to this way of decorating. Generously proportioned with a relaxed silhouette, it can become a colourful focal point beside the pool, sit beneath an umbrella on the patio or create a comfortable retreat in a quieter corner of the garden.

Where you place it can change with the day, too. South African outdoor living is rarely formal, so furniture that can move from a peaceful morning spot to extra seating when friends arrive makes good sense.

Does it bring you joy?

Most importantly, choose colours you enjoy living with. Choose the lime green because it makes you happy. Add the striped chair because the patio needs a little playfulness. Or bring in orange simply because it looks fantastic against the garden.

Summer is the perfect excuse to loosen the decorating rules a little and let the outdoors show a more colourful side of your personality.
