Dekton Meets All Our Criteria For The Patio

Dekton meets all our criteria for the patio. Why? Because it’s time to get outdoors and enjoy your patio to the max this summer. Dekton is here to make it a memorable season after all!

Dekton is a popular material choice for patios due to several advantageous properties.

Here are some reasons why Dekton is considered a good material for patios:

Durability:

Dekton is an extremely durable material that can withstand harsh weather conditions, UV radiation, and temperature fluctuations. This makes it ideal for outdoor applications, such as patios, where exposure to the elements is inevitable.

Resistance to Environmental Factors:

Dekton is highly resistant to scratches, stains, and fading, making it suitable for outdoor use. It is also resistant to fire, which adds an extra layer of safety, especially if you plan to use your patio for activities involving heat, like barbecues.

Low Maintenance:

Dekton requires minimal maintenance. It is non-porous, which means it doesn’t absorb liquids, preventing the growth of mold and mildew. Cleaning Dekton surfaces is usually easy with mild soap and water.

Colour Stability:

Dekton is resistant to fading over time, even when exposed to sunlight. This ensures that your patio will maintain its aesthetic appeal for an extended period.

Heat Resistance:

Dekton has high resistance to heat, making it suitable for use in areas where hot objects may be placed, such as around grills or outdoor kitchen areas.

UV Resistance:

Dekton is UV-resistant, meaning it can withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight without significant color degradation or damage.

Let’s learn from the Kildals…

On the west coast of Norway, everything outdoors is put to the test. When Birthe Kildal, who is behind the inspiring Instagram account @villakildal, and her husband Kåre, were to create an outdoor kitchen and a large dining table, they had clear ideas about what material they wanted to use.

“We couldn’t have an entire large wall without a function, so it was perfect to set up an outdoor kitchen there,” says Birthe. “But it requires some of the materials to be left outside all year round. Perhaps especially here in Western Norway where we have a lot of weather. Fortunately, we know that we can rely on Dekton to look just as good year after year, even if there is frost, sun or rain.”

The Kildal family already has good experience with Dekton. Among other things, they have built a biofireplace inside the house, and covered it with Dekton.

“It is very important to us that the worktop is maintenance-free, and that we don’t have to worry about it getting ugly when we use both knives and grills for cooking” says Birthe.

Carefree meeting point

Inspired by old camping tables with a hole in the middle for a parasol, Birthe designed the beautiful table which she herself believes has lifted their entire patio.

“My creativity runs wild. Fortunately, I have a patient husband who is also good at building. We have refurbished an old dining table, for which Kåre made a new wooden table top, which is now used as a base for the stone slab from Dekton, to ensure good stability for the heavy slab. The tabletop has a joint in the middle that allows us to open it. This allows us to set up and dismantle the specially made olive tree with silk leaves that act as a parasol” explains Birthe.

Both the worktop for the outdoor kitchen and the tabletop are cut and ready-made at the factory in Spain. Both have a matt surface which is recommended outdoors to avoid unnecessary reflection from the sun.

“We wanted a marble pattern in the outdoor kitchen, and fell for Dekton Portum, but there are several nice alternatives. I know the color of the outdoor table, which is called Dekton Vera, has gone out of production, but Soke and Crete, among others, are good alternatives. The only thing that is good to think about is that a white color can give a lot of reflection, and a completely dark color can get very hot. It’s not too big a problem for us here in Western Norway with so little sun and heat, but still something to think about” advises Birthe.

Having functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor furniture is important to the Kildal family. In addition, Cosentino’s sustainable focus is also very important.

“The fact that Dekton is a carbon-neutral product throughout its life cycle means a lot to us. I myself have been and seen the production facility of Cosentino in Spain, where I have seen with my own eyes how well thought out they are in terms of sustainability, innovation and personnel policy. This makes me feel completely confident that Dekton is a good choice that we will enjoy for many years to come” concludes Birthe.
