Willowlamp’s Flower of Life Chandelier | Sculptural Lighting Design

Willowlamp

Few lighting studios have shaped the language of sculptural lighting quite like Willowlamp. Known internationally for its dramatic, handcrafted installations, the Cape Town-based studio has built a reputation for transforming light into immersive architectural art — pieces that move beyond illumination to become defining spatial experiences.

Among its most iconic creations is the Flower of Life chandelier, a design that continues to captivate through its intricate geometry, layered movement, and atmospheric presence. Installed at Seerose Resort & Spa against a reflective ceiling, the chandelier becomes part of a dynamic visual composition where light, reflection, and form interact continuously. The mirrored surface doubles the intricate structure, amplifying depth and creating a striking sense of rhythm throughout the interior.

Inspired by sacred geometry, the Flower of Life was the studio’s very first chandelier and remains one of its most recognisable designs. Its layered metal chains appear to flow almost weightlessly through space, creating a soft, veil-like effect that shifts with perspective and changing light conditions. The result feels simultaneously precise and organic — technical in construction, yet fluid in atmosphere.

Founded in 2005 by architect and designer Adam Hoets, Willowlamp has become synonymous with innovation in bespoke lighting design. At the centre of the studio’s process is Hoets’ patented notch system, a pioneering technique that allows strands of metal ball chain to pass through laser-cut stainless steel frames with extraordinary precision. This innovation gives each installation its signature sense of movement and dimensionality.

Every Flower of Life chandelier is handcrafted to order within the studio’s Cape Town workshop and tailored to its environment through customisable drop lengths, mounting options, and adjustable chain tendrils. A wide selection of finishes — from brass and copper to smoke gunmetal and bespoke ombré blends — further allows each piece to respond uniquely to its architectural setting.

The result is lighting that feels immersive rather than ornamental: sculptural works that shape mood, movement, and atmosphere with remarkable presence.
