This deep, glossy finish was first developed during willowlamp’s work on a large-scale ceiling installation at Cathédrale restaurant in Las Vegas. The client requested dark, moody frames in place of the usual brushed stainless steel, which inspired willowlamp to create this bold new aesthetic.

Sleek, dark and beautiful

The Black Oxide finish is a specialized blackening process applied to the steel frames. It results in a sleek, dark sheen that is sealed to prevent further oxidization. Subsequently, this ensures the finish remains rich and earthy with a natural oxide finish over time. For the machined brass components, a chemical treatment is used to accelerate the natural aging process, achieving a refined gun metal colour that avoids the green patina often associated with aged brass. These parts are also sealed to protect against scratches.

This finish opens exciting possibilities for design, offering a dramatic, almost gothic aesthetic. This pairs perfectly with modern, industrial, or minimalist interiors.
