Planetworld | Sonos Introduces a Simpler, Smarter App Experience
Planetworld highlights the latest Planetworld Sonos app update, as Sonos has introduced a significant update to its app, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to building a software platform that evolves through continuous improvement and customer collaboration. Available through an opt-in toggle, the latest update delivers a more intuitive navigation experience, redesigned volume controls, and enhanced room management features designed to make everyday listening simpler and more enjoyable.
An updated streamlined system
Developed in response to customer feedback, the update replaces hidden gestures and nested menus with a streamlined three-tab navigation system consisting of Home, System, and Search. The new layout allows users to move through the app more naturally, making it easier to locate content, control their system, and clearly identify where they are within the interface.
Another notable enhancement is the introduction of improved room organisation. Users can now sort and pin rooms alphabetically, by frequently used spaces, or by what is currently playing, ensuring that the speakers they interact with most remain easily accessible.
The update also introduces a redesigned volume interface for iOS, featuring dedicated +/- controls alongside group volume management for more precise control across multiple rooms simultaneously. Android users can expect this functionality in a forthcoming release.
Refining the user experience
Beyond the visible interface improvements, the update reflects a broader shift in how Sonos develops its software. Over several months, the company worked closely with beta testers and its wider customer community to refine the experience before its public release. Beta testing began in May before expanding to a larger group in June, allowing more customers to provide valuable feedback throughout the development process.
The results have been encouraging. According to Sonos, 97% of beta participants chose to keep the new experience enabled, while users required 37% fewer taps, on average, to complete common tasks, highlighting the effectiveness of the simplified navigation.
By introducing the update through an opt-in rollout, Sonos aims to continue gathering customer insights, incorporating feedback, and refining the platform before expanding availability further. The approach reflects the company’s long-term philosophy of delivering meaningful improvements through ongoing iteration, ensuring that the listening experience becomes easier and more intuitive over time.
Available through Planetworld, the latest Sonos software update demonstrates the brand’s commitment to continuous innovation. With a cleaner interface, smarter organisation tools, enhanced multi-room controls, and a development process shaped directly by its community, Sonos continues to strengthen the software experience that sits at the heart of its connected audio ecosystem.
