Suspended Fireplaces: Your Guide to Modern Heating Artistry with Signi Fires
We have discovered a collection of suspended fireplaces that we believe you will want to know about. The best part is that these floating hearths are designed and hand-forged right here in Cape Town by the craftsmen at Signi Fires.
Why Choose a Suspended Fireplace?
These are both heat sources and conversation starters that hover in your living space. Many of the models can pivot 360 degrees, allowing you to direct warmth and enjoy the view from any angle. For homes that require both heating and visual appeal, these fireplaces provide an excellent solution for both.
Which Style Suits Your Space?
We’ve spent time with each model, and here’s what we learned:
The Silo brings fire back to its roots – a central gathering point that draws people together. Available in four sizes (600mm to 1200mm in diameter), it works well in both intimate spaces and grand rooms.
The Cone makes a striking statement with its dramatic silhouette. At 1000mm in diameter, it is ideal for larger living areas (including outside decks) that require a strong focal point. This was the first of its kind to be proudly made in South Africa.
The Ball combines suspension with stability – its top sphere hangs while a base piece grounds the design. This open-hearth design shines in bush lodges and other hospitality settings, where it naturally complements rustic architecture.
The Aero, with a diameter of 1200mm, features clean lines and an effortless presence. Its rotating design ensures that everyone can enjoy the best view of the flames. This represents a contemporary interpretation of a classic design, embodying elegance and sophistication.
The Halo and Globe are two sides of the same coin – both 700mm in diameter, with the Halo offering an open hearth and the Globe providing a closed system. The Globe’s enclosed design makes it ideal for homes (including bedrooms) where controlled burning is preferred.
The Float bioethanol model solves the no-chimney dilemma for flat dwellers. It runs on clean-burning fuel and needs no ventilation system. This is definitely your answer if you’re in a flat or can’t install a flue.
Practical Matters:
- Wood and gas models need a flue pipe
- Standard installations include pipes up to 3 metres
- All models come standard in matte black
- Custom heights available for all models
- Each piece includes mounting brackets and damper controls
Our take? These fireplaces combine South African craftsmanship with practical heating solutions. Whether you’re renovating or building new, a suspended fireplace adds both warmth and wonder to your space.
