Natural Textures at Melonwoods: The Beauty of Wood
Honouring craftsmanship, creativity and the timeless appeal of natural materials.
October marks a special milestone for Melonwoods, the Ballito-based furniture, lighting and décor specialist, as the brand celebrates one year under new ownership. To commemorate the occasion, Melonwoods hosted its very first event, welcoming special guests and clients into its space to share in its passion for natural textures, beautiful materials and thoughtful design.
The aim was to create a cosy, inviting atmosphere where creativity and community could come together. More than simply showcasing its collections, the event offered guests an opportunity to discover what makes Melonwoods unique: its appreciation for the natural character of wood and the role it plays in creating natural wood furniture that is both functional and beautiful.
A highlight of the morning was an interactive activity featuring handcrafted chopping boards made by a local carpenter. Guests selected their favourite boards, chose stencils and used a special pen to trace their designs before burning them into the wood. As the designs emerged, each board became a personal, one-of-a-kind creation, a wonderful reminder of the beauty of working with natural materials.
Durran guided guests through the different wood varieties used in the shop and for customised furniture. Oak remains a firm favourite. It is loved for its versatility, understated elegance and suitability for contemporary, clean-lined designs. The event also explored blackwood and ofram. These have rich, darker grain patterns that come to life beautifully when oiled. These distinctive woods are particularly striking in live-edge tables. Here the natural grain becomes a feature in its own right.
At Melonwoods, texture is something to be experienced, not just admired. The showroom celebrates the warmth, depth and individuality of natural materials, inviting visitors to slow down and appreciate the details. It is difficult to walk through the doors without reaching out to run a hand over a piece of furniture.
As Melonwoods celebrates its first year under new ownership, the brand looks forward to hosting more gatherings that inspire creativity, encourage connection and share its love for the natural beauty that makes every piece special.
