Maldini & Pianca Present The Award-Winning Naan Armchair

Sometimes, the secret lies in simplicity. That is how it is for the renowned Indian naan bread, and so it is for the armchair of the same name, designed by Federica Biasi. It is a compact chair, embracing volume with soft, gentle contours. The Naan Armchair also won the iF DESIGN AWARD 2023.

The structure from Naan develops from a square base with rounded corners into one single block form, projecting it into the space, with no interruption, creating an inviting volume. Slim, tapered armrests and backrests enclose a generous seat. The absence of voids gives the armchair a precise, elegant look of balanced form and geometry, both visible and invisible.

The Naan armchair is also available as a swivel chair. It is a product that suits any space, conceived for home living areas, public spaces and hospitality venues. Its intrinsic simplicity makes it a piece of furniture that matches a wealth of decor styles.

Designed by Federica Biasi, Naan boasts beautifully delicate contours. “I wanted to create a harmonious product that does not steal the limelight, but blends into living room, waiting room and entrance area décor with timeless style,” explains the designer. “Naan is a moody but not silent product, inviting and with a boldly-defined character.”

It’s perfect for public or private locations. Naan is made of moulded flexible polyurethane and is also available in a swivel version. It can be upholstered in natural or synthetic leather or a removable fabric cover – also with the Green Pianca fabric collection.

Established in 1954 and organized by the iF International Forum Design GmbH, the iF DESIGN AWARD is one of the most famous design awards in the world. In 2023, it received almost 11,000 submissions from 56 nations. The 9 categories were Product, Packaging, Communication, Interior Architecture, Professional Concept, Service Design, Architecture, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI).

A jury of 133 members, independent experts from all over the world, selected the Naan armchair by Pianca to be one of the winners in the Home Furniture / Decoration category of the prestigious iF DESIGN AWARD 2023.
