True Design Presents Cappellini
Avant-garde ideas for contemporary furniture.
Established in 1946 by Enrico Cappellini, Cappellini is a global name in designer furniture today.
Founded in a modest workshop in Carugo, a quaint town nestled just a stone’s throw away from Como and Milan, meticulous craftsmanship and artisanal heritage were part of the brand’s DNA from the start.
But it was in 1977 when Enrico’s son, Guilio, joined the business that it was propelled onto the global stage. Gullio’s mission was clear: to infuse every design with innovation.
The first of these inventive ideas was Sistemi, launched in 1981. A new way of conceiving cabinets, combining function and aesthetics, these new compositions were conceived to give the buyer a wide possibility of personalisation.
Innovations also included collaborations with designers, some known, some new to the world of interior design. From a prototype of Jasper Morrison’s Thinking Man’s Chair to the now-iconic S-Chair by Tom Dixon, Giulio identified winning designs early on and backed them with production know-how and inclusion in the Cappellini catalogue.
Fast-forward a few decades and the latest designs unveiled by Cappellini include Millepiedi by Dimorestudio and Oblong Plus by Jasper Morrison.
“A sculptural and highly recognisable look showing the hallmark of Dimorestudio’s unique design: Millepiedi is an object in which the line between art and design is very thin, a product able to furnish the most diverse architecture with its iconic presence,” explains Cappellini.
Of the new addition to the Oblong collection they say: “Almost twenty years after its presentation, the Oblong System by Jasper Morrison has been revised in its architectural system to guarantee an even more flexible and ergonomic structure: this is how Oblong Plus was born, a modular seating system designed to fit any space, be it a contract or a residential one. The seating elements, offered in different depths and widths, are characterized by extremely comfortable padding and can be used as free-standing modules or to create corner, linear or open compositions. Like all Morrison’s projects, Oblong Plus is a very contemporary product, the emblem of free and dislocated seats, perfect for relaxed comfort.”
Locally, Cappellini is available at True Design.
