The Private Collection: Indigo House
High on the mountainside overlooking Plettenberg Bay Lagoon, designer Yvonne O’Brien’s beach home embraces a Mediterranean palette of blue and white.
White walls and fixtures frame sand coloured natural wooden floors and soft furnishing in shades of Indigo blue. North African fabrics and artworks evoke daydreams of wooden dhows and sun bleached sails, while touches of bamboo, pearlescent shell and glassware perfectly finish the relaxed spaces.
Inspired by the natural light and sea vistas, this restoration project was a labour of love. Outdoor spaces were designed to encourage reading and afternoons that slip into long warm evenings.
The bathroom is both modern and streamlined in white with woven accent basketware. A double sink in a built-in unit evokes a sense of luxury living. Modern window shuttters and big mirrors add reflective qualities to this space, while fresh greenery lends an inviting, pared back and relaxed ambience.
It is all about relaxation along the coast. A casual sophistication was achieved with built in day beds, white slipcovers, Yvonne’s collection of Matisse prints and woven pendants for texture.
Harmony is achieved in the open plan spaces with a muted palette and accents of blue throughout. The home is bathed in natural light and we can’t help but peek outdoors to embrace those immaculate views!
There is certainly an organic feel about this spacious designer retreat. Natural materials work together, offset by a white backdrop, to create a cool, calm and relaxed atmosphere. Decor is kept fresh and organic too and ties into the overall theme of this stylish abode.
