Milan Design Week: Lapalma Presents “SPACETIME”
A Journey Through Time Inspired by Timeless Design: SPACETIME
SPACETIME delves into the theme of time, exploring its profound influence on our routines, the spaces we inhabit, and the evolution of design itself. Taking place across two Lapalma locations in the heart of Milan’s 5Vie district during Fuorisalone, this event offers an immersive and captivating exploration of design’s relationship with time.
At RIVIERA, a creative hub curated by Simple Flair and Lapalma for Architects, visitors are invited to embark on a chrono-dimensional journey. The installation begins with a tribute to vintage geometries, evoking an era of avant-garde architecture and cozy, playful interiors. Soft moquettes with retro patterns, early operator chairs, and sofas offering comfortable waiting areas transport guests to a time when design embraced both functionality and whimsy.
As the journey progresses, guests travel through a hypothetical spatial wormhole, shifting from the past to the future. The adjoining Lapalma for Architects space presents a cutting-edge, open-plan workspace, highlighting fluidity, collaboration, and modular furniture. This section offers a glimpse into the future of design—an architecture studio that celebrates reductionism, essential aesthetic codes, and shared values that define the essence of modern spaces.
Additionally, SPACETIME features the 24HOURS project, showcasing 24 unique wall clocks designed by various international design studios. Curated by Jamie Wolfond and in collaboration with Simple Flair, the clocks challenge traditional notions of time, presenting it as a fluid and flexible concept. These designs transcend chronological and stylistic boundaries, offering new perspectives on the relationship between design and durability.
The spatial design, crafted by Simple Flair, weaves continuities and discontinuities between different eras. Brutalist elements meet vibrant, colorful atmospheres, where rough surfaces, textured finishes, and subtle lighting converge to create a space where design serves both functional and expressive purposes.
Throughout the exhibit, Lapalma’s furniture acts as a constant, timeless thread, seamlessly participating in this journey through different design epochs. Romano Marcato, co-founder and owner of Lapalma, reflects: “Our collections are conceived and designed to be long-lasting, in time and in taste. It is wonderful to see them as nonchalant participants of a journey through different eras that brings together various forms and expressions of creativity.”
