KAAPENHAGEN will debut during Cape Town Furniture Week 2025

A new not-to-be-missed event on the local decor and design calendar, KAAPENHAGEN will debut during Cape Town Furniture Week 2025.

 A joint creative initiative between Inova Concept Store and Danish design brand Hay, the design challenge will bring together ten of Cape Town’s most innovative artists and designers to reimagine HAY’s iconic About A Chair AAC 222.

 Each participant has  transformed  this masterpiece of Danish design, originally created by Hee Welling, into a unique interpretation that bridges Scandinavian heritage with contemporary Cape Town design sensibilities.

 As Brent Weldon, Owner of Inova Concept Store notes: “We’re putting Cape Town’s unique creative pulse at the heart of this challenge. KAAPENHAGEN isn’t just about reimagining a chair – it’s about showcasing how our city’s designers can take a global design icon and transform it through their distinctive creative lens. When we say we’re putting the ‘KAAP’ in KAAPENHAGEN , we’re celebrating the intersection of two design powerhouses: Danish precision and Cape Town’s creative energy.”

 The reimagined chairs will be unveiled at the Inova Concept Store in Cape Town on 19 February. The exhibition space will transform into an immersive design experience, where visitors can engage with the works and participate in the public vote. The “people’s choice” winner will be announced at the CTFW awards evening on Friday 21 February.

 Now in its third year, Cape Town Furniture Week 2025 will run from 19 to 22 February 2025. The festival features open showrooms, exhibitions, talks, factory tours and events that bring together industry professionals and design enthusiasts.
