Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026 | Salone in the City Milan Design Week Guide

For its 64th edition, Salone del Mobile.Milano extends beyond the fairgrounds once again, positioning the city itself as an active participant in the narrative. Under the concept of Salone in the City, Milan becomes a layered stage where design, culture, and public life intersect across a series of events, installations, and curated itineraries.

The week opens with a moment of cultural resonance at the Teatro alla Scala Foundation. A concert by the Teatro alla Scala Orchestra, conducted by Michele Mariotti with pianist Giuseppe Albanese, sets the tone, linking musical excellence with contemporary design discourse. It is a gesture that reinforces the Salone’s ongoing dialogue with broader cultural institutions.

At the heart of the city, Piazza della Scala hosts the Design Kiosk, an open-air platform dedicated to publishing and conversation. Curated by Reading Room, the programme unfolds daily, bringing together voices from architecture, editorial practice, and visual research. Through a series of talks, contributors explore themes ranging from independent publishing to contemporary living, positioning design as both subject and medium of discussion.

Beyond these central moments, Architectures of Freedom introduces a new way of navigating Milan. Developed by Bianca Felicori, the project traces a route across five significant buildings, each representing a chapter in the city’s architectural history. Temporary installations — created in collaboration with K-WAY — intervene within these spaces, introducing a dialogue between permanence and transience, structure and lightness.

Supporting this expanded experience is the Salone in the City guide, available in both print and digital formats. More than a practical tool, it maps over 150 locations, from exhibitions and showrooms to cultural landmarks, encouraging a more intuitive exploration of Milan during Design Week and beyond.

With this approach, the Salone continues to redefine its role. No longer confined to a single venue, it becomes a distributed experience where the city itself is read, experienced, and reinterpreted through the lens of design.
