Clarens Art Fair 2025: A Celebration of Creativity and Culture

The highly anticipated Clarens Arts Festival is back, shining with top-tier performances, captivating workshops, and exciting cultural experiences, running from May 1 – 4, 2025.

South Africa’s beloved actor Ian Roberts will take to the stage to discuss his memoir, Nomad Heart, and raise the roof with the famous Radio Kalahari Orkes. Hometown talent Josh Mokoena returns with his Quartet to present a soulful jazz experience, while popular singer André Schwartz is set to captivate the crowds.

The festival will also feature two exceptional dramatic performances: the award-winning musical Vincent, starring Daniel Anderson and Paul Ferreira, delving into the life of Van Gogh, and a heartfelt tribute to renowned writer Breyten Breytenbach, with Laurinda Hofmeyr, Koos van der Merwe, and Bibi Slippers celebrating his legacy.

Tickets are flying for Bruce Fordyce’s event, Tales From The Road, with the legendary Comrades runner also leading the Clarens Parkrun on Saturday. For those looking for a different kind of tale, Frik de Jager will take guests on a unique journey around the world with captivating stories and delicious recipes.

Superstar author Tony Park will share the secrets behind his bestselling books and his passion for South African wildlife, while actress and writer Susan Coetzer will discuss her new book, Haas en Harriët, and treat guests to bubbles and cake.

For those interested in expert discussions, the festival welcomes top journalists Karyn Maughan, Pieter du Toit, and TJ Strydom, who will explore the state of the nation with Piet Croucamp. Of course, the Clarens festival wouldn’t be complete without a nod to dinosaurs—Gideon Groenewald and Rodney Moffet will discuss the region’s rich fossils and indigenous lore with Paddy Gordon from Golden Gate Highlands National Park.

Out on the village square, a vibrant display of art and sculpture awaits. Nearly 40 visual artists will showcase their work, including celebrated Durban artist Grace Kotze, standout village artist Debbie Marx, and Sinalo Ntuli, known for her bright depictions of contemporary African life.
