Ambiente: The Trade Fair That Brings Future Into Present

Ambiente is the trade fair highlight of the year, acting as a barometer of the latest trends as well as an order and design platform. It consists of three areas – Dining, Living and Giving. The global consumer goods industry is coming to Frankfurt from 8 to 12 February 2019 where it will demonstrate how the future will become the present.

2018 Ambiente

Ambiente presents a whole range of consumer products on the subjects of cooking, dining, houseware and leisure as well as giving, interior design and interior furnishing. 95 percent of the exhibition space has been booked already. Following in the footsteps of Denmark, France, Japan, the USA, Italy, the UK and the Netherlands, the forthcoming Ambiente partner country will be the Republic of India. The presentation of the partner country will cover a wide range of products by traditional crafts and artisans.

Curated and designed by the Jaipur-based India designer Ayush Kasliwal, this year’s exhibition will be shown again at Galleria 1. Kasliwal is an alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, is one of India’s leading design thinkers, practitioners and advocates for artisans. Kasliwal with his architect wife Geetanjali, is Creative Director and Co-founder of AKFD & Anan Taya, interdisciplinary design companies based in Jaipur, India. He works in multiple ways, from small batch manufacturing, to artisan driven orders finished at his factory, to interiors and large scale on-site installations throughout India. He believes that “Objects are messages in physical form”.

Relaxing culinary time

Sandeep Sangaru, a multidisciplinary designer, educator, entrepreneur and a nomad by nature, will design the Café in hall 4.1, where visitors can find moments of peace and quiet amidst the hustle and bustle of the trade fair. The café will be one of the many features at the trade fair that are fully focused on India.

Ambiente is the event of the year for the consumer goods industry and the focal point of the worldwide consumer goods market. To quote Nicolette Naumann, Vice President of Ambiente: “Exhibitors from around 90 countries will be setting trends for 2019 and beyond. In 2018 Frankfurt attracted 4,376 exhibitors from 88 countries, occupying over 308,000 square metres of gross exhibition space and demonstrating their new developments and innovations for five days.”

Point of Experience

For a long time now, customers have been expecting more from shops than just products and displays. In the foyer of Hall 4.1 you can find “Point of Experience”, a special presentation set up by the design and implementation office Gruschwitz GmbH, which links online and offline shopping. The shopping concept of the future shows how digital age products can be presented and showcased in such a way that consumers still enjoy going to high-street shops.

Global Sourcing

Global Sources has by now developed into a well-established part of the international volume business at Ambiente. In 2019, the entire Sourcing and Dining area covers four levels in Hall 10. A new feature in Hall 10.2 will be called Premium. This is where selected exhibitors from Global Sourcing Dining will present the full scale of products with relevance to Dining. The short distance between Global Sourcing Dining in Hall 10 and Houseware & Storage in Hall 12 will create additional synergies for buyers. From now on Global Sourcing Living/Giving will be situated in Halls 9.2 and 9.3. In all, about 1,500 exhibitors from 55 nations will be presenting their product ranges at Ambiente. Frankfurt is thus the number one trading location for volume business outside China. Short routes are available, covering the entire volume business from countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Hong Kong, Morocco, the Philippines, South Africa and Vietnam.
