The Private House Company: Modern Aesthetic in Mauritius
The mountains and indigenous forests of Mauritius inspired this striking golf estate home on the island, with interior design by The Private House Company. Here, an intentionally muted palette marries the colours drawn from the surrounding habitat.
The home’s architecture infuses a modern aesthetic into its tropical environment. The design team embraced this aesthetic for the interiors, using lots of white, clean lines, exotic woods and grass cloth wallpaper. The result is a luxurious but laid back home, that reflects the warmth and inviting nature of the island its owners now call home.
We love the lightness of each room – lending an air of freshness to the living room. Framed monochromatic prints grace the walls – and hint at the outside landscape of true island living. A mix of textures bring life and vibrancy to the interior and we can certainly imagine leisurely passing time in this cool, casual and homely space.
Bold white shutters line the windows and add an air of sophistication to this home. Instead of drapes or fabrics around the curtains, the shutters add to the modern beach-house aesthetic which we love.
The bathroom too is cool and calming in tones of white and black with hints of wooden finishes. Again, palm tree prints are on display in this area of the home, linking to the rest of the interior and again hinting at the landscape just beyond the walls. A double vanity is ideal – adding to the luxury of this home.
The bedrooms are kept simple and calming – hints of blue are reminiscent of the ocean while a palette of cool whites and neutrals keep things crisp and inviting. The perfect place for the ultimate relaxation.
Beautiful patterned rugs, art on the walls, and an array of interesting textiles and decor add a rich and modern aesthetic to this home. The overall feel is one of beach house chic – a modern retreat for comfort and rest.
The Private House Company is known for creating rooms that are understated, personal and quietly refined, run by Yvonne O’Brien. This African based interior design firm continues to set the trend in design – creating beautiful and bespoke spaces for modern living. Their interiors are always sophisticated, warm and timeless.
