Design Luxe Interiors: The Art of Luxurious Living

What makes an interior feel luxurious? For Design Luxe Interiors, the answer has little to do with filling a home with more. Instead, it comes down to choosing better – exceptional craftsmanship, enduring materials and furniture that feels as relevant years from now as it does today.

SA Décor & Design caught up with Greg Shane of Design Luxe Interiors to talk about the brand’s philosophy of “the art of luxurious living”, why timelessness will always win over trends and the growing shift towards quieter, more considered interiors.

How does Design Luxe Interiors define luxury today?

“Luxury today isn’t about having more; it’s about having better. It’s about exceptional quality, timeless design and creating a home that reflects who you are.

At Design Luxe Interiors, we believe luxury should be experienced every single day. That is the thinking behind our philosophy of the art of luxurious living: helping people create homes that are elegant and comfortable, but also uniquely their own.”

How do you keep a collection contemporary without becoming driven by trends?

“For us, timelessness always comes before trends. We travel internationally and keep a close eye on emerging design movements, but we’re very selective about what we bring into our collections. We don’t chase trends; we interpret them.

When curating our range, we look for exceptional craftsmanship, balanced proportions and enduring materials. We then introduce contemporary elements through texture, finishes, colour and sculptural forms, which keeps the collection feeling fresh and relevant.

The result is furniture that feels current today but will still look elegant in 10 or 20 years. We want our clients to invest in pieces they will continue to love long after trends have evolved.”

What design shifts are you seeing in luxury interiors right now?

“One of the biggest is the move towards what I call quiet luxury – spaces that feel sophisticated through quality, craftsmanship and thoughtful design rather than being overly decorative.

People are investing in fewer, better pieces, and we’re also seeing a strong appreciation for organic shapes, sculptural furniture, natural textures, rich fabrics and warm, layered colour palettes.

Materials such as natural stone, wood, glass and brushed finishes continue to bring depth and character to interiors. These are elements that can feel contemporary without dating a space.”

What should someone consider when investing in furniture for the long term?

“Look beyond what is fashionable at that particular moment. Beautiful proportions, exceptional craftsmanship, quality materials and pieces that feel authentic never go out of style.

A home should evolve with the person living in it, so the pieces you invest in need to have the versatility and longevity to evolve with you. Trends can certainly inspire, but they shouldn’t dictate every decision.

At Design Luxe Interiors, we want clients to invest with confidence, knowing they will still love their homes years from now. Trends may shape a season, but timeless design shapes the way you live for much longer.”

Located at 8 Desmond Road in Kramerville, Sandton, Design Luxe Interiors brings this philosophy together through a collection spanning statement furniture, sculptural lighting, designer wallpapers and curated accessories, offering plenty of inspiration for creating a home where luxury feels considered, personal and made to last.
