Spotlight Apartment 48
Classic yet contemporary, design-forward yet functional, designer Rayman Boozer pulled out all the design stops to transform this brownstone in New York’s Upper East Side into a modern family home filled with colour, pattern and pizzazz. Lots of pizzazz.
“I love combining vibrant colours, exotic materials, and contemporary furnishings to create spaces that feel optimistic, relaxed and effortless,” says Boozer of his design philosophy, which is clearly visible in this project.
Everywhere you look there is colour and character, from the living area with its custom pink, gold and cream rug, colourful contemporary art and scatter cushion in jewel tones and ikat prints to a ditsy Romo wallcovering on the landing and a neon-pink sign by Jeff Lee that reads “Fearless”, everywhere you look the decor speaks to the clients tastes and their unique style.
Elsewhere a quiet nook features a bold teal wallpaper design by Jim Thompson, paired with gold sconces and a custom-built banquette upholstered in a Susi Bellamy fabric in a colourful peacock print. And a bedroom features bold, moody floral prints and lashes of purple and lavender while in another graphic black-and-white striped wallpaper and a zig-zag rug are effortlessly paired with gold accents and an almost surrealistic botanical print with pops of yellow, green and purple.
All these bold design statements are elegantly combined with bathrooms and an airy kitchen in neutral schemes, which simultaneously provide a soothing effect and allow the colours in the other rooms to pop even more. It also confirms Boozer’s monicker as the “go-to designer for colour consulting”.
“When it comes to shaking up an existing space, I always remind clients that colour is the least expensive update you can make to completely change a room,” explains Boozer of his approach.
“The colour palette sets a tone for a room, and particularly in your home, it sheds light on your personality. You can walk into a new space and instantly learn something about the inhabitants without speaking a word.”
“I’m all about putting positive vibes out in the world,” he says and this vibrant project certainly does.
