Spring Home Styling Ideas | Tones Spaces with Soul
Spring has a way of changing the mood at home. The light hangs around a little longer, windows and doors stay open and suddenly the garden, patio or balcony starts calling again. For Toni-Anne van der Meulen of Tones Spaces with Soul, it’s the perfect time to bring a little of that new-season energy indoors – without feeling the need to redecorate everything.
Start with colour
Tones Spaces believes that sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference. A cushion in an unexpected colour, a new artwork, a favourite vase or a handful of flowers can be enough to make a familiar room feel different.
Spring is also a good excuse to bring the garden inside. Gather branches, blossoms and greenery and don’t worry too much about creating the perfect arrangement. Something loose and slightly unruly can have far more personality.
Let life spill outdoors
Patios, verandas and balconies come back into their own at this time of year, so treat them with the same attention you would a room inside. An outdoor rug underfoot, comfortable cushions, lanterns and beautiful pots can quickly turn an overlooked area into somewhere you actually want to spend time.
Then use it. Take breakfast outside, move dinner onto the patio or set the table with natural textures, glassware, flowers and candlelight when friends come over. It doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special.
Plant something now
A pot filled with flowers, a small herb garden or even one beautiful tree gives you something to watch change as the warmer months unfold. Fragrance can play a part too. Jasmine, lavender, citrus and fresh herbs introduce another layer to the garden – and, with the windows open, to the rooms beyond.
Keep a corner for yourself
Not every outdoor space needs to be designed for entertaining. Find one spot that is simply yours: a chair that catches the morning sun, a shady place to read or somewhere quiet for that first cup of coffee.
For Toni-Anne, welcoming spring is less about giving the house a complete makeover and more about enjoying it differently. Open the doors, bring in some colour, pick something from the garden and find more reasons to spend time outside. Sometimes that’s all the change a home needs.
