Bold and Beautiful Black Brick Buildings
Black is a contemporary décor trend that makes a bold and striking feature both in interior design and architecture. Once considered dull and depressing, but now hailed for its sleek, minimalistic aesthetic, black brick buildings are bold and beautiful, and Corobrik is a forerunner of the décor evolution.
Millshack, designed by 255 Architects, is situated on the corner of Dane Street and M4 (Main Road), Observatory, Cape Town. Completed in 2020, it is a new luxury student accommodation which provides convenient and affordable accommodation for students in Cape Town. The design encompasses communal spaces which gives opportunity for interaction and socializing between residents. The exterior of the building is a striking landmark in this Capetonian suburb. Stark white walls are contrasted with dark black brick.
This gorgeous building was created using Corobrik’s “The Black Brick” from their satin face brick range, and the smooth texture of the bricks reflect light and create a certain amount of fluidity and movement, making the building come alive. The face brick has been set vertically instead of horizontally, which helps make the black tower seem taller and sleeker, and also matches the aesthetic of the overall design – the windows also mimic this vertical placement.
Darker hues absorb light and warmth, so dark brick is an ideal building material for bitterly cold Cape Town winters. Other dark coloured brick from Corobrik includes Onyx, Titanium, Cape Stormberg, and De Hoop Matt Brown.
If you like the look of dark brick, but you’re not bold enough to use Corobrik’s “The Black Brick” on the outside of your home, why not use it as a feature wall in your home or living room? This makes for a sleek and contemporary look without making the room too dark and dull.
The strength and durability of Corobrik’s wide and versatile range of clay face bricks, is equally matched by its aesthetic qualities that are compelling and captivating. The Corobrik clay face brick range offers the widest variety of colours, shades, shapes, and textures available.
What do you think of Corobrik’s “The Black Brick,” and how will you use this sleek brick range in your next building project? We’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.
