A Kelly Hoppen Interior
An elegant study in understated luxury, Kelly Hoppen’s latest project features a decidedly restrained colour palette.
Contrary to the designer’s signature bold look, the design of Zhuhai Jiuzhou Apartment in Jiuzhou Bay, China, consists of a tightly curated selection of hues – a refined collection of warm stone, taupe and cream shades – punctuated by the strategic layering of textures on architectural elements like walls and flooring for a visual punch of a slightly different kind.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese art and design while harmoniously integrating the surrounding vistas into the fabric of the design, the unique interiors captivate from the very first step.
“The design unfolds with a striking runner that leads visitors from the lift lobby directly into the lift car, setting a powerful, welcoming tone,” explains the design studio. “This experience is further enriched by the use of curved elements and a thoughtful layering of materials, making this lift design unparalleled and memorable.
Introducing a fresh and clean design philosophy, evident in the mixing of plain stone and natural timbers with black contrast details, the design breaks conventional boundaries by creating a space that not only celebrates all-around culture through local artworks but also achieves a theatrical sense of scale. This is accomplished by combining dramatic works of art, enhancing the artistry and appeal of the space.
“The living area, designed as the heart of the apartment, invites open social interaction, enriched by ceiling curved elements and inspired by the landscape of Jiuzhou Bay. The design introduces a luxurious, multi-functional entertainment space, with a kitchen that becomes a focal point of warmth and interaction through the mix of materials like travertine stone and ribbed timber, alongside a blend of linear and curved elements that echo the unseen sea views. Furniture within the space is both unique and comfortable, fostering areas for relaxation and enjoyment. The strong contrast of architectural forms and textures alongside colour contrasts disrupts the visual balance, creating a striking impact. Modern luxury within the apartment offers a calming aesthetic, full of serenity, maximising the natural light and breathtaking views.
By presenting ancient and modern culture side by side, the apartment incorporates traditional and modern artistic elements, offering a unique and exclusive living experience that pays homage to Zhuhai’s vibrant history and the East meets West design ethos.”
