Plascon House Tour: From Dark To Chic

This old-world Victorian home boasts original features, ornate ceiling details and antique touches. However, a modern renovation has brought this residence into the 21st Century with a new layout and inspired interior design to suit a growing family.

We love the arched walls, high ceilings and ornate patterns found on the living room ceiling. It was this sense of depth and history that the new owners wanted to keep, without the home feeling stuck in the past. As such, they invested in modern finishes and quirky finds to add a contemporary twist to their new home.

A gorgeous Didscoco lighting pendant by Christopher Mathie adds a modern flair to this space. While bold American black walnut flooring ensures a seamless flow between the rooms.

The hallway and library are further examples of how the owners have opted for contemporary elements brought into a traditional space. Built-in cabinetry was installed in a modern grey shade to add to the contemporary look of this space. Modern lighting and a contemporary chair adds to the ambience of sophistication.

The bedroom features high ceilings emphasized by the choice of white backdrop and wall panelling for added detail. The ornate cornices in this room remain a feature here. While a contemporary bed, complete with upholstered headboard adds a modern twist. Wall mounted lighting and floating side tables are a chic addition here.

The bathroom oozes contemporary flair. Large format tiles have been incorporated into the bathroom to add to the illusion of space. Things are kept light and bright with a neutral palette and modern fittings. The room feels earthy and relaxing – the ideal ambience for a peaceful bathroom.

The end result is a beautiful family abode that was once a dated Victorian space. Today it has been brought into the light with a chic new layout and modern finishes.
