Plascon House Tour: A Bold Brownstone Transformation

Today we step inside a lavish five-storey Brownstone home in Brooklyn Height, New York. A residence seeped in historical significance, designers opted to refresh the space and bring it into the 21st Century.

The living room feels bright and sophisticated with a marble fireplace framed by a beautiful ornate mantel. A statement chandelier is suspended above this space, adding texture and tone to this magnificent room. We also love the inclusion of artwork that brings colour and life into the various rooms throughout this home.

Designers certainly had fun with the choice of light fittings throughout this retreat. A one-of-a-kind handmade light fixtures hovers over a raw-edged willow table designed by Fitzhugh Karol in the dining room. A mix of wood, metal and glass add to the depth of this space.

Connected to the dining room is an open plan kitchen which is filled with light and custom cabinetry. Exposed brass shelving brings an urban industrial edge to this space while modern white appliances with brass accents adds to the luxurious feel of the kitchen. A timeless combination of white and brass make a statement in this space. A large island doubles as extra storage with a clever addition of cabinets below the seating space. We also love the curved entryway – an ode to the home’s former life.

The entire house is filled with interesting pieces and a mix of art, wood and functional furniture. As the parents of young children, the house needed to meet the specific needs of a growing family and this is evident throughout. Pops of bright colour add interest in the family room and play room. We love the interesting bursts of bright shades that bring life into these spaces.
