Kumari Govender
We asked Kumari to share some of her deepest inspirations and latest projects. Here’s what she had to say…
What’s your go-to classic colour choice?
Black, White and Gold
Is there a hotel, interior or building that’s most inspires your work?
The City Palace in Jaipur, Rajasthan which has been home to the Royal Family of Jaipur for
centuries. It is an opulent blend of old world glamour and modern maximalism.
A place you love to visit?
Definitely Florence – home to the inimitable Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo – two
iconic archetypal Renaissance wonders.
Where do you go to spot new styles?
I pay close attention to all the seasonal shows in Milan, New York & Paris. Social Media also
makes it easy to identify what the global market is responding to.
Do you have a favourite restaurant?
Local:
My best friend introduced me to Bel Punto in Umdloti a few years ago. It is very casual chic
with the most glorious views but most importantly the seafood is outstanding.
International:
Amalfi’s hidden gem, Pizzeria Donna Stella is set in a lemon garden and serves the most
delicious buffalo mozzarella and the best authentic Italian pizza on the coast.
Who or what is your biggest design influence?
My designs are hugely influenced by art – specifically the renaissance art movement, travel
and architecture.
Any interesting projects you are working on?
Currently, I am hyper-focused on “creating experiences” for our brand evangelists. I’ve
extended our shopping experience beyond the reach of an online store to the home and
on-the-go, by tracking client’s style preferences and connecting clients directly with HAUTE
EDIT’s in-store style concierge service to assist with purchase decisions and
recommendations.
