During the introduction of the Colour in Motion collection, SA Décor & Design sat down with Giulia Milani, Export Area Manager at Infinity Surfaces, to discuss the inspiration behind the new range. From the philosophy that drives product development to cutting-edge manufacturing, sustainability and the growing importance of the South African market, Milani shares how Colour in Motion reflects the ever-changing beauty of nature while meeting the demands of modern residential, commercial and hospitality projects.

1. What philosophy drives your product development, and how is that reflected in the Colour in Motion collection?

“At Infinity, our core philosophy is simple: We create surfaces that elevate spaces without compromising on function. We don’t view large-format porcelain as simply a building material; we see it as an architectural canvas.

The Colour in Motion collection is the purest expression of that philosophy. Nature is never static. It constantly changes through light, shadow and movement, and this collection was created to capture that natural rhythm. From dramatic veining to rich, layered organic tones, every surface is designed to bring a sense of movement and emotion into a space. It’s where art meets high-performance engineering.”

2. Creating surfaces with such depth, movement and colour requires advanced manufacturing. Can you tell us about the technology and craftsmanship behind the collection?

“The depth and detail within each slab are the result of cutting-edge Italian manufacturing combined with precision craftsmanship.

We use advanced digital inkjet technology together with high-pressure compaction processes that allow high-definition pigments to penetrate deep into the body of the slab, creating genuine three-dimensional depth rather than a simple surface print. Working with large-format slabs also requires exceptional structural integrity, so our production process delivers outstanding strength, scratch resistance and zero porosity while preserving the subtle tonal variation that gives every surface the appearance of carefully selected natural stone.”

3. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important when specifying materials. How does Infinity Surfaces balance innovative design with responsible manufacturing?

“For us, sustainability isn’t a trend or a marketing exercise; it’s embedded within the way we manufacture.

Our slabs are produced in advanced closed-loop Italian facilities where process water and raw material waste are recycled throughout production. They are manufactured using natural mineral raw materials, without toxic resins or VOC emissions, making them safe for food preparation areas and contributing to healthy indoor environments.

Durability is equally important. By creating surfaces that are resistant to heat, stains and UV exposure, we’re producing materials designed to perform for decades without replacement. Longevity is one of the most meaningful forms of sustainability.”

4. Where do you see the greatest design opportunities for the Colour in Motion collection across residential, commercial and hospitality projects?

“The versatility of the collection is what excites architects and interior designers most. Available in slim yet exceptionally strong 6 mm and 12 mm profiles, the possibilities are almost limitless.

In residential projects, we’re seeing Colour in Motion used for waterfall kitchen islands, dramatic feature walls and integrated washbasins. In commercial and hospitality environments, the scale creates a remarkable impact on hotel reception desks, statement wall cladding, lift surrounds and restaurant bar tops. Because the material is completely UV-resistant and weatherproof, designers can also create seamless transitions from interior spaces to exterior façades and outdoor entertaining areas.”

5. As Infinity continues to expand internationally, what role does the South African market play in your global strategy?

“South Africa is an incredibly exciting and dynamic market for Infinity. The country’s architectural and design community is recognised for pushing creative boundaries, particularly through contemporary open-plan living, strong indoor-outdoor connections and bold feature applications. South African designers embrace scale and expressive design, making them a natural fit for our large-format porcelain surfaces.
