Plascon House Tour: The Castle – A Hollywood Hills Home
An old Hollywood Hills home, fondly named ‘The Castle’ was given a new lease on life in this striking makeover. Without losing the soul and character of the original home, first built in 1926, owners opted to bring it into the 21st Century with modern touches and bold colours.
Together they transformed the large 100-year-old house with a byzantine floor plan into an open family home with a good flow from room to room.
The exterior was kept in a muted palette of white and black. In order to retain the original character and integrity of the 1920s villa, the exterior facade was restored to its original aesthetic.. Designers were also able to save the circular staircase, the rotunda ceiling, and the original front door.
A huge task was undertaken to gut the entire interior and create a more cohesive home – for modern living. Small rooms were opened up and a new floorplan envisioned.
A mix of different types of flooring – which had been added throughout the years, was replaced with reclaimed oak floors to create a better flow. Rooms were also opened up to create a modern open floor plan which now includes a colossal, bilevel combination living and dining room, with a huge, high-end kitchen arranged around a marble-topped island and an adjoining breakfast room. There is ample space to breathe and move between the various living zones in these spaces.
As for the decor and furnishings, a mix of interesting pieces add depth to each space. There is an evident blend of decor and objects, from photos and books to heirlooms and art on the walls. Interesting bookshelves take centre stage – elegant and decorative.
The indoors is connected to the outdoors with beautiful steel windows and doors. A large but worthy investment in this home.
The kitchen is beautiful and minimalist with bold metallic sanitaryware that adds a touch of glam to this space. A large island is ideal for modern family life and large windows allow for light to infiltrate this space.
Equally appealing, the outdoor spaces are ideal for entertainment and life. An outdoor terrace boasts and outdoor dining space and kitchen – the perfect spot in which to enjoy family life outside.
