Plascon House Tour: Modern Loft Living

New York city is the backdrop for this stylish modern loft in the East Village. The interior is a mix of modern and classic design elements with a blend of contemporary finishes, industrial design and interesting art.

An old building initially used for storage was cleverly redesigned into this modern home. As such, many of its features feel a little industrial and urban – tall ceilings are accentuated by light colours and pops of modern art on the walls.

A large open plan space becomes a cosy space for living. Here customised built-in bookcases, wooden furniture, classic elements and bold artwork merge together. The living space feels large and airy, and a muted palette is the key to achieving a space of balance.

The architecture is predominantly crisp and precise, but it’s softened with rugged elements such as the cast-iron columns – painstakingly stripped of 20 layers of paint – exposed brick walls, original joists and the birch ply floor.

A few rustic design elements add to the overall feel of this loft. Complete with interior brick walls in the kitchen and modern stainless steel appliances, the space feels contemporary and a little urban – as one would expect from a modern New York city loft.

High ceilings are a great feature, adding to the sense of space and depth in this home. An eclectic mix of furniture adds to the retro feel – industrial finishes include metal, leather and more.

The master bedroom is serene and light filled. Again high ceilings and long windows add to the lightness of the space. Things are kept neutral here with hints of colour – complete with a collection of bedside reading material.
