Plascon House Tour: Loft Living in Tribeca

In Lower Manhattan, New York, as you meander down the streets of the city that never sleeps, you’ll easily stumble upon the bustling neighbourhood of Tribeca. Once a thriving industrial district, today Tribeca boasts beautiful loft conversions where old industrial buildings have become modern and sought-after residences. Today’s home is one such loft apartment that packs a punch with bright colours and large industrial windows.

The beauty of a loft conversion is that it retains some of the charm of older industrial spaces. This home boasts large, floor to ceiling windows – in glass and steel – that is edgy yet opens up the living spaces to invite the industrialized outdoors in.

This home is immaculate – a beautiful example of how an old building can receive a contemporary makeover and re-emerge as a place of style. Many lofts are often on the small side, but this loft conversion has one thing going for itself – the sheer size of the space which has been cleverly converted into a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home.

The house further boasts a library, playroom and bar, plus 10-foot high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and natural light from all directions.

A number of sculptural and metallic pieces enhance the living room, including a tubular steel chair, a matching chrome piece, a geometric floor lamp, and a white structure in between the two sofas. It’s a wonderfully eclectic mix of textures, colours and materials.

Hints of playful colours are used throughout this home. The children’s playroom doubles as a guest room, so the area is kept light and neutral, but still boasts an array of exciting finishes such as a hanging fern in the room.

Metallic and geometric pieces in the playroom helps tie it together with the rest of the apartment. The golden Half Moon Mirror by Ben and Aja Blanc is both funky and chic.

The kitchen is a contemporary state-of-the-art space with contemporary cabinetry and a large island that can accommodate the whole family.

The end result is a beautiful, contemporary loft apartment – in the heart of one of New York’s bustling neighbourhoods. A gem in the city that never sleeps.
