Plascon House Tour: A Funky Family Home in Los Angeles

Today’s LA home offers bright interiors and ample space to be enjoyed by the whole family. Vibrant pops of colour, geometric patterns and contemporary architecture bring life to this bold and funky family residence.

A large Californian retreat at a little over 3,500 square feet, this home features high ceilings, a generous floor plan and amazing views of the skyline and the reservoir.

On the inside, this home boasts a modern kitchen with striking dining area, an elegant living room, a modern master suite and five different outdoor terrace areas. Did we mention that this home also features, not one, but two swimming pools, to be enjoyed on those hot Californian summer afternoons.

The interior is modern and inviting. Designers aimed to brighten each space, providing additional storage and open, happy living spaces for the entire family. “We added pops of blue to lighten the mood and painted the walls a warm white to further brighten the space,” explains the design team from Modern Nest.

The family needed additional storage too so the design team worked on a custom armoire with open and closed storage which becomes a focal point in the home.

Hard to miss, another feature in the interior is the bold wallpaper by Kelly Wearstler’s Channels which runs alongside the kitchen and dining area, and down the stairwell to the lower ground floor. We love the intricacy of this bold print with geometrical lines that offer definition and a contemporary edge to this home.

The children’s rooms were also planned with meticulous detail. Each space is decked out with funky details that bring colour and energy to these funky rooms. A colourful bunny wallpaper adorns the little girl’s room. It makes for a bright, quirky and child-friendly space.

Similarly, the boy’s bedroom brings a burst of colour in soft blue. The real star in this room is a suspended upper bunk bed which appears to float in this magical space.

With five outdoor terraces, the owners are really spoiled for choice to enjoy outdoor Californian life and make the most of the surrounding views. We love the versatility of these spaces, some with potential for dining, reading and even lounging at the pool.

The end result is a beautifully designed home – inside and out – with many funky, modern touches!
