Plascon House Tour: A Chic Harley Street London Home
Acclaimed architecture and design studio Red Deer recently refurbished this beautiful period Grade II-listed home in central London. It is a two-storey 18th-century apartment and forms part of a larger Georgian townhouse, located in Marylebone, London.
This home is filled with charm and a sense of history, having been built in the 1750s. The latest interior renovations, however, give it a fresh new look that is chic and contemporary with beautiful finishes.
There is a mix of old and new here. Original Jacobethan moldings and new-classical plasterwork make up a marriage of styles. Period fireplaces were also sourced and reinstalled, along with reclaimed Douglas Fir floorboards.
We love the sleek new palette of black, white and grey which permeates throughout the home, allowing the sharper lines of one-off furniture pieces and brass fittings to truly stand out. With a distinctive mid-century American styling, the interior feels effortless, elegant and a little eclectic.
The kitchen was totally redone and re-positioned to ensure a more open-plan flow into the living spaces. It becomes a perfect extension for entertaining and enjoying social activities with the family. Beautiful brass cabinetry handles and brass cane effect give this kitchen a distinctly modern feel. Super sleek and on trend, white marble countertops and splash-backs, along with the plain white walls, add a modern and fresh look here.
Old world charm meets modern touches – and this is evident in the bedrooms and bathrooms too. In the bathroom, modern black taps penetrate an aged-effect mirror, and a vintage oil painting peers out from behind a modern, sculptural vase.
The guest bedroom also features a modern grey half-wall paint effect against a more distressed and aged upper. In the main bedroom, wood panelled wardrobe doors and detailed plasterwork on the ceiling give this room aged elegance.
Overall the look is crisp and chic without losing the historical old-world charm of the home.
