Celebrity Homes: A Look Inside Serena Williams’ North Miami Home

Serena Williams recently showcased her new ultra-modern Florida home in collaboration with Architectural Digest and it truly reflects the living space of a 23-time Grand Slam champion.

The overall design of this super chic North Miami abode didn’t happen overnight. In fact, it took a long five years before coming to fruition. Serena previously lived with older sister Venus on and off since 1998 in their shared Palm Beach Gardens property. However, since marrying Alexis Ohanian and birthing her daughter Olympia, she was ready to make her mark and create a home of her own.

A total transformation

The striking waterfront property was initially a 14,500-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean-style home. However, Serena stepped in to change things up a little and create her own space with a design she could call home. As such, Serena looked to sister Venus for assistance as apart from tennis, Venus actually owns a world-class interior design firm called V Starr.

“You have to know your lane. I’m really good at playing tennis; I’m not as good at interiors. But I was able to learn through just watching Venus,” Serena told Architectural Digest.

Venus and V Starr managed to completely gut the Mediterranean property and bring Serena’s vision to life. The home was majestically transformed into a modern, minimalist retreat. Although the house is made up of sleek clean lines and high-end features, it also has this sense of comfort with tons of natural light pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

What’s more, is that the home features a full-on trophy room. We would expect nothing less from a tennis champion like Serena to need an entire room to display her collection of well-deserved trophies!

A whole new concept

At Serena’s request, the V Starr team came up with an out-of-the-box design solution to refashion what was once a classical Floridian-style foyer and formal sitting room with beautiful chairs no one sat in, into a colourful art space. Today this space boasts eccentric pieces on display. “When you walk in, it’s like walking into an art gallery,” says Serena. “That’s my favourite part of the house. It’s so unique. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

From the wine cellar to the karaoke room, the amenities are endless in Serena’s exquisite home, but it’s hard not to notice one thing seems to be missing; a tennis court.

“I wanted to separate home from work,” Serena said. “I love being home. When you have our job, you never get time to relax. So it’s good for me to be able to sit still and not do anything.”

Venus added: “I am not a fan of just having spaces to have them. Maybe some people use their formal living rooms, but we don’t. So we created a space that she can actually use and enjoy and live with the art, and invite other people to absorb it and have that emotional connection as soon as you walk in. It sets the tone for the rest of the home.”
