A Contemporary Take On a Classic New York Townhouse

Renowned Dutch interior design office, Studio Piet Boon, created a contemporary take on a traditional New York townhouse. The end result is a sophisticated interior packed with luxurious finishes and timeless appeal.

Piet Boon Studio knows all about striking a balance between functionality, aesthetics, and individuality. They aim to create one of a kind design experiences, often shifting boundaries and setting new standards.

On closer inspection of the living space in this New York abode, you will notice the classic architectural features of the space. Beautiful ornate ceiling details are hard to miss and yet, modern finishes such as full-length windows add height and depth to this space. Contemporary furnishings bring a modern twist to this home too. The room feels bright and inviting – a welcoming space that embraces outdoor living.

The design approach for this historical townhouse was to join interior and art, to highlight, celebrate and honour the exquisite artworks of the homeowner. At the same time, the designers were tasked with creating a warm and versatile family home, which can be transformed into elegant and sophisticated spaces respectively for large dinner parties.

The client was interested in maintaining a clean and bright contemporary interior as well as restoring the classical moldings in the historic townhouse. A contrast that the design studio enjoyed playing with. Here a modern furniture selection works together with the bespoke interior millwork, colour scheme, material combinations and integrating the client’s beautiful art collection.

In response to the client’s wishes, Piet Boon Studio created design solutions that strengthened the overall experience and laid emphasis on the art pieces, bespoke detailing and high-quality finishing’s.
