Vintage charm and elegance abound in this beautiful retreat in Franschhoek. Designer Greg Mellor, who has been involved in numerous distinctive residential and hospitality projects, chose a range of bathroomware from Victorian Bathrooms for the award-winning Akademie Street Boutique Hotel in Franschhoek.
Baths in aged brass skirts accompanied by the Britannia collection of tapware, all form part of this exclusive project.
“There was no doubt that Victorian Bathrooms was the only place that could provide us with the quality we needed, and a range of beautiful styles and finishes that worked well across the various areas of such an eclectic property” – Greg Mellor.
Nestled in the heart of the historic wine region of Franschhoek, Akademie Street Boutique Hotel is a luxury escape from the mundane. Furthermore, the multi-award-winning hotel boasts nine individually styled suites in four carefully curated cottages. This subsequently provides a blissful base from which to explore the landscapes, vineyards and restaurants of South Africa’s Culinary Capital.
An eclectic design style that exudes warmth
Akademie Street is closely intertwined with Franschhoek’s rich history. The Oortuiging building was one of the first structures to be built in the town around 1860. The combination of Cape Dutch architecture and the ensuing beauty of the landscape gardens make for a magical getaway.
Hospitality and comfort are the key focus of the discreet and personal service at Akademie Street. Furthermore, the hotel offers a haven of tranquillity with delicate attention to detail throughout.
The mammoth task of redesigning the interior of Akademie Street was bestowed upon Gregory Mellor. Greg is subsequently a master of his craft, having been involved in several high-profile hospitality projects and residential projects as far afield as Bondi beach. His work has thus been described as; “understated and elegant, and in all of his spaces you’ll find a commitment to comfort and authenticity”.
Each of the nine suites have been individually styled. Some are light and bright with warm hues of wooden flooring and white tiles, while other rooms are more moody with darker tones of green with aged brass fittings.
Every room subsequently differs in style whilst maintaining the theme of ultimate comfort and relaxation. Providing the sentiment of home away from home.
The distinctively crafted bathrooms are completed with Victorian Bathrooms’ ware. Bespoke luxury bath tubs, in aged brass skirts, subsequently form the centrepiece of each bathroom.
Britannia bath mixers on over-rim standpipes in an aged brass finish, stand proudly alongside each bath. Furthermore, the bath accessories include a classic bath rack whilst the basins are paired with the Britannia range of tapware.
