Spotlight: Meet The Director of Trendy Taps

Planning a bathroom takes special attention to detail. Today we chat with Stacie Ortmann Director of Trendy Taps in South Africa, about what it takes to successfully renovate a modern bathroom. We hear more about her background, aspirations, and of course, expert input from Trendy Taps.

Stacie, can you tell us about how you got involved in the industry and how Trendy Taps first started?

After 8 years in the Events Industry, embarking on the project management of building houses was a natural progression. Both require you to think ahead… way ahead. And you quickly learn to know what each team needs to keep the ball rolling.

It all started with a small home renovation and then expanded into homes built from scratch. I noticed very early that the looks I was trying to create in bathrooms were extremely limited. Suppliers didn’t carry full ranges and the lead times on stock delivery could take months! This couldn’t have been a stand-alone problem, so I set about to create a user-friendly online platform for buyers; keeping stock on hand, which could be delivered around the country in just a few days.

It was the best decision ever, and we all know the E-commerce industry is at an all-time peak, especially in South Africa and due to the impact of Covid.

The feedback I have received from clients has been phenomenal. These products proved to be an instant hit on the market. The Trendy Taps range has grown from 40-product items to 120.

What are the main considerations when planning a bathroom?

A bathroom can be tricky to plan, and is best managed by a skilled person. The most important thing to look at when planning your bathroom is to have as much natural light as possible, whilst still making the room feel private. The toilet is never the first thing you want to see when you open the door. It is best concealed behind a wall or door.

Furthermore, you can never have too much storage space. There are endless clever ideas to achieve this, even in a small space. The shower door also needs to have enough room to fully open.

What about choosing bathroom fittings? Do you have any expert advice to share?

Taps and fittings make the biggest impact in a bathroom. These can instantly highlight the aesthetic you are trying to achieve; clean and modern or more dramatic and country. A personal favourite is the Brushed Gold Range. I love how it pops and adds drama to any space. This range has been a big hit since launching earlier in the year.

Do you have any new developments in the pipeline at Trendy Taps for the seasons ahead?

Yes. I am very excited to be doubling our basin range very soon, as well as introducing a new range of door handles. We’ve been in operation for four years now, and the sky is the limit! I cannot wait to see what the future has in store!

Any interesting industry collaborations you have going at the moment?

It is with big excitement that Trendy Taps now has six of our products in 23 Builders Warehouse Stores around the country, both on display and in stock. I am so proud to be affiliated with such a large chain store that has such a high standard in both quality and service.

What inspires you to keep going?

The Trendy Taps clients are constantly inspiring me, and I absolutely love chatting to them about their projects. I’ve been working with The Guardian Guesthouse in Hermanus, and I think Sharon and I will be friends for life.
