Balcoon-Scapes by Duravit x Patricia Urquiola at Milan Design Week 2026
Balcoon-Scapes: Duravit x Patricia Urquiola marks the next chapter in an ongoing creative partnership, presenting a striking sculptural installation at Milan Design Week. Rooted in the brand’s “Design Meets Excellence” philosophy, the installation debuts at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio on 21 April and will be open to the public until 24 April.
Duravit and Patricia Urquiola’s creative exchange continues into 2026, maintaining a consistent approach that broadens the brand’s scope beyond conventional contexts. Building on last year’s Milan Design Week installation, the duo demonstrates how premium bathroom design can extend beyond function into culture, space and experience.
Following the introduction of the Balcoon product series in 2025, the collaboration now evolves into a sculptural expression of the brand’s “Design Meets Excellence” philosophy—uniting architectural clarity, craftsmanship and purposeful design.
Crafted exclusively for Duravit, Balcoon-Scapes is an immersive installation that elevates the Balcoon collection’s design language and aesthetic principles into the realm of sculpture. The reinterpretation draws on the collection’s characteristic round and square volumes, layered surfaces and warm clay tones, rearranging its pieces into a sculptural landscape. Washbasins, bowls and floor-standing toilets are released from their traditional orientation and reimagined as totem-like forms, while two custom toilets crafted in fur and concrete introduce an unexpected contrast of material and form.
The installation is designed to encourage contemplation and foster a vibrant dialogue between object, space and viewer. To achieve this, Urquiola has created two bespoke benches that echo the sculptural language of the limited-edition stool—a piece derived from the same design vocabulary and produced in Duravit’s Black Forest factory. Limited to just 26 numbered pieces, the stool translates Duravit’s craftsmanship into a rare collectible object.
Hosted at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio—an architectural landmark featuring Duravit products within its interior design—the installation unfolds within a setting that amplifies its sculptural presence.
The installation will be unveiled at an evening cocktail event on 21 April for friends of the brand, partners and media, before opening to the public until Friday, 24 April.
“I’m happy to continue my collaboration with Duravit, this time with Balcoon-Scapes. The installation unfolds as a field of totems, where elements from the collection are reinterpreted as sculptural presences, shifting from product to spatial composition,” says Patricia Urquiola.
“Patricia embodies many of Duravit’s values: quiet excellence, architectural clarity and a deep respect for materiality. Our ongoing partnership translates our ‘Design Meets Excellence’ philosophy into immersive experiences,” adds Lüder Fromm, CMO of Duravit. “We are proud to be present once again at Milan Design Week, showcasing our ambition to create bathrooms that are not only functional, but also atmospheric, emotional and timeless.”
Alongside the Balcoon-Scapes exhibition, Duravit will open its Milan showroom throughout the week. Visitors can explore a holistic bathroom experience featuring Balcoon’s latest product updates, alongside milestone collaborations—from Philippe Starck’s ME by Starck Hero Edition to Collection One by Studio F. A. Porsche—as well as washing area additions such as Ocavo and technological highlights including SensoWash shower toilets.
Additional city activations include a branded Duravit tram and shuttle bus, circulating throughout Milan to connect visitors between key locations.
Discover more and experience the Balcoon-Scapes exhibition at Gran Meliá Palazzo Cordusio from Tuesday, 21 April (10:00) to Friday, 24 April (19:00).
